I have this problem too. What's your setup? I'm on 5.50 Prometheus on an original 'phat'. Most of my games work fine, but some suffer from the odd bit of slowdown. Metal Slug Anthology occasionally slows down when it gets busy, but then I'm not sure if that's anything to do with dodgy files and more just a clusterfuck of crazy shit throwing grenades at my face...

So...yeah, what system, firmware, and what specific games are you having trouble with?

Step 1. Get a real genuine Memory Stick, not a fake or MicroSD adapter.
Step 2. Format that stick.
Step 3. Don't run the game as a .CSO, use the uncompressed .ISO instead.

If you have verified your memory stick is legit, formatted it afresh and are *not* running .CSO, post back.

My memory card is a red 4GB Sandisk, how can I verify its authenticity as many people have told me my PSP based issues may be memory card related. My spare 1GB green Sandisk doesn't give me any trouble, but then that's only used for a select few PS1 games and my GBA emulator.

I have a 2000 Slim, 5.50 GEN-D2, the games I'm having trouble with Daxter, Assassins Creed, and pretty much anything 3D. And I mean it goes so slow that It takes like an hour for the loading screen and menus to pass. It's really annoying.

Also my Retail Monster Hunter Freedom 2 runs really slow when I'm in the village.

I did that all from the start. I have a 4 GB Kingston, which I'm sure isn't fake.
I don't run a CSO.

Should I format it again?

1) Try not to double post, that's why we have an edit button. Just FYI, before Haflore or someone chews your face off about it.
2) Never heard of any actual UMD's being problematic. My copy of MHF2 claimed my save data was corrupt but when I transferred it to Freedom Unite it worked fine, but aside from that it works fine. Possibly a more serious technical problem with your PSP, I'm afraid.
3) To change the speed, switch the system off completely, then hold down the R trigger and switch back on. That gets you to the recovery menu. You can change the settings from there. I don't know what they all mean though so ask someone else for help with it

So you don't know why Freedom 2 runs really slow in the village? It's like I'm running in slow motion.

I can confirm that 5.50 Prometheus doesn't have any trouble with the UMD, so whatever it is causing the problem, I doubt it's the firmware since Prometheus and Gen aren't that far apart. Either your UMD is fucked or there's something wrong with your PSP's internals, I reckon.

FUUUUUUUU-

What the fuck do I do?!?!

What I need is to try someone else's copy of Freedom 2 to see if it runs slow or not.

You can find out if it is a fake by seeing if MagicGate support is present. Press triangle on the memory stick under Game and it will tell you there. If it says it is supported then it is legit, unknown or unsupported means it is a fake.

The speed of the MS can affect some games dramatically while others won't have noticeable lag. You should run a speed test with blackspeed to see what your card can do.

I don't have problems with most 3D games... I can run Crisis Core, MHFU, Peace Walker, and Soul Calibur just fine.

I've only experienced problems with Daxter and GoW:CoO.

Running Prometheus 5.50, with a GENUINE 8gb Lexar, at 333mhz.

Hopefully both GTAs (that aren't Chinatown Wars,) GoW:GoS, and Kingdom Hearts won't have any slowdown.

Have you tried Jak and Daxter The Lost Frontier? One of my 4GB MS's had issues with the FMV in that game.

I was running a 2gb Sandisk + psp-1000 + 5.50 Prometheus, and I had tons of slowdown in god of war... and the opening cutscene in dissidia was pretty horrible. I tried running it at 300 and 333mhz, and that didn't help.

Just got a new 8gb Lexar Mark 2 from amazon and everything runs absolutely amazing now, even at 266mhz. I blame slow/fake cards for any and all slowdown ive ever experienced. Definitely pony up for a higher class/speed memory card... you'll notice the difference immediately.
