I have a very old 9.2 old3DS, and since a week it has been doing weird things.

My first problem is that the bootrate starts to degrade. When my problem started, it wasn't booting (at all) in a ~5% chance. Now I'm happy if the 3D light lights up at all (if it's not booting, the 3D light doesn't light up, and holding down the power button REBOOTS the system!).

Now my second problem is that I can't launch any DS carts anymore since yesterday (tbh, I haven't tried it since these problems started to show up). The 3DS barely detects DS carts, and most of the times it freezes the home menu, or they show up as a white logo with no text, both flashcarts and legit retail games (the cart slot is not broken, 3DS games work perfectly fine). If I'm lucky, and I manage to launch a DS cart, the 3DS freezes with both LCDs turned off, but the 3D light is still on.

(Note to some users: yes, I have used Google, and no, I had to UPDATE to get 9.2 many months ago)

Might be time to start thinking about a replacement.
Sometimes it's necessary to just let go and part with our loved ones.

If you are planning to buy a new one, there's a limited edition fire emblem fates n3ds being released this friday. I heard the firmware will be less than 10.3; allowing you to downgrade.

It's not the matter of love (but it's a black-gold TLoZ one :(), it's matter of budget (I need a new bed). If I could afford, I would buy a 2DS, or a 3DS XL (I hate n3DS's control placement (volume slider / power button)), but I can't afford even an used one. I bought this 3DS used in a pretty bad condition (broken and crunchy circlepad, X button broken in half, barely working and broken triggers, barely "shutdownable" 3D slider, sharp plastic pieces coming off the Dpad), but it was perfectly functional. I tried reinstalling TWL_FIRM, but it's still not working.

I bought it in september (as I mentioned, used). It was on 6.3. It has a CEH1169xxxx serial.

I just checked Google Finance, I have ~43$/40€ for a new non-n3DS. I just can't find any non-n3DS cheaper than Nintendo's refurbished 2DSs :(

Why?! Why the heck Nintendo?! Why are you such a dick with Europe?

I guess it's gonna cost OVER EIGHT THOUSAAAAAND! And I hate n3DS's layout, so double nope.

Well, I managed to start DSmode from rxPasta with Slot1-launcher. I tried reinstalling multiple versions of TWL_FIRM, but I still can't launch DS cards from regular SysNAND, I have to use rxPasta with Slot1-launcher. But the DS cart launch rate is still annoyingly low (so I guess I'll have to blame the cartridge slot).

The no-3D light problem is still present. I wouldn't blame MenuHax, because it loads AFTER the 3D light.

This is a long shot, but have you tried formatting the system memory completely and restoring to factory default? You could have installed something that screwed it up.

Haha, derp :P

I restored the GoatWaitDG'd 4.5 NAND, and re-updated with sysupdater.cia, reinstalled the whitelist and TWL_FIRM v0 from "that iso site" via FBI.3dsx's network mode, and now it works :rofl2:
Okay, the DS cart detection rate is still frickin' low (bent pins? they look kinda OK to me), but the boot problem is gone, and the DS launch from SysNAND works :D

How could I've been such a doof?
Thanks for pointing me the obvious out :grog::toot:

Pretty much all 3DS units on the shelf are downgradable at this point, as none of them have the latest firmware. And if you're really lucky, they're under 9.2. I got a 9.0.0 brand new at Walmart just last month.
