PS1/2 Soft Mod help

I have a Japanese PS2 slim model SCPH 70000. I`m looking into installing Free McBoot on my memory card (or soft modding), but since I have never done this before, and also am going to install on a Japanese PS2 no less, I wasn`t sure what the process should be. Here is what I have available to me:

USB stick
PS2 slim (as mentioned)
memory card

If possible, I want to work with what I have. Save some DVD-R`s to back up my games. Or at least the cheapest option. I have heard if I have Free McBoot I wouldn`t need Swap Magic etc. which I hope is true. lol. Anyway, thanks for any help

I know when why but you will need gameshark and risk getting a virus on your PC/Laptop

You can install free mcboot with other memory card free mcboot installed, you can launch the elf with ulauncher and install in your memory, the other way is with swap magic
