They're alright. Usually great hardware for the price especially in bulk/overstock cases. I am not researching all the hardware's reliability individually on that computer though, that's you're job. =P Don't expect the best customer service though I guess?

Basically, it's so cheap because it's not a Sony Vaio or a Macbook. You'll be the only person with an Acer.
I am positive about the big screen + numpad drops the price too. It's a great benefit for you or me, but most consumers do not want either of those from their laptop. 1.5" is pretty thick for a notebook these days too. Have you seen the Macbook Air?

In the reviews one person says it heats up and has a pretty crappy touchpad.

well..its good for its price, but not that good.

firstly: its not core 2 duo.
2gb ram? u need 4. (u can buy 2gb for like $35 though, its pretty cheap)
harddrive is kinda small, 200+ is the norm now.
and the graphics card seems sub-par

but other than that, its a pretty good bargain. go for it.

EDIT: o and its acer...:S

best laptops are: asus and mac.
decent ones: hp, dell, ibm, and sony.

Dell and toshiba probably have the best build quality when it comes to laptops. sonys are usually good but it depends on the model, because some have terrible reliability. IBM used to be good, but since they were sold to lenovo they seem to have gone down hill. don't know much about HP.

Wait until you have any sort of knowledge at all to post about computers, please.

2nd'd.

da_head is ignorant to the max.

Anyway, for 400$ you're getting:
-a rather strange resolution (not really a con) but you don't see 16:9 in laptops too often
-enough ram to enjoy full benefits of Vista
-wireless n
-graphics card equivalent to 8400gs - which is good for a laptop at this value
-presumably, around 2:30 battery life

i was actually thinking the exact same thing gore. anyways, 2 gigs is more than enough for this computer. only bad thing imo is the graphics card, but if you don't plan on playing any games, other then your emulators i guess, it should be decent.

i'm ignorant? :S why?
i thought 2gbs is pretty little for vista..especially if u wanna game..
and asus/macs aren't good?
obviously i no for $400 its not gonna have top of the line specs, i was merely pointing out concerns that a gamer may have..but i also did say its a good deal anywayz...

Because nearly everything you posted, was false.

Fun fact, Vista only takes up about 370MB of RAM, the other remaining used RAM is programs you frequently use loaded from hard drive into RAM, as to have quick start. When you start a game, Vista unloads RAM as needed.

Macbooks are not good - I see issues posted everywhere. More expensive Pro's are overpriced but are better and well, professional.

Hard drive at 400$ pricepoint is great.

Damn. I wish I could buy this and send it back to about three years in the past. Paid $600 for this one and ..yeah. *cries*

a $200 price reduction took 3 yrs......?
He meant another laptop... x4500 graphics didn't even exist 3 years ago.... in fact, they were first released in June 08

so why does everyone say to get at least 2+ gigs of ram for gaming then?
macbooks aren't good? so are they just highly overrated? :S
once again, the harddrive size is decent for its price, but just warning the op that 160gb is pretty small this day and age. (at least it is for me..)
