Nothing happened. The update for the shop channel that allowed for WiiWare happened almost a month ago. Unless Nintendo did a SURPRISE NEW FIRMWARE NEEDED kind of deal we knew nothing would happen. And seeing as no new firmware is needed, we are safe for now.

You need a modchip to install WADs using the WAD Installer, am i correct?

No, you don't need a modchip. You need the Wii version of Zelda: Twilight Princess, SD card and reasonably savvy computer skills. There are plenty of tutorials that explain further. Check the stickies.
