What else is he going to do with his Brick though? :D.
get it fixed and not pay to have someone steal it :P....he could even sell it on if he couldn't find anyone to do the mod for him
bricked doesn't mean worthless
so if he pays £20 to have it unbricked and £5 postage, and the person keeps the money and the console, then that person just fixes it themselves and sells it on and gets £100 + the £25, basically the person has lost out on £75 that he should of been able to sell it on for himself after having the work done, or even if he sold it faulty, he could probably get like £40-£60 if he provided the nand dump with it....so still loosing out of £60 (prices based on my costs, and XL prices).....but you get the idea, the 3DS is not valueless just because its currently bricked B-)

When you try to update your EmuNAND with a retail Cartridge, it will update your SysNAND

WRONG. Stop spreading lies please.

He most likely was already in sysnand when he updated, because updating with a retail cartridge from emunand WILL NOT update sysnand.

Why the fuck are people deviating from the instructions on updating there emuNAND? It clearly says to update through the systems menu? I don't pity this dude one bit. You deserve a brick for not following simple instructions.

Sorry needs advise a bit, I just downgrade my 3ds xl to 4.2 and install emuNAND and update it to 9.4 and also install CFW 4.5 everything went fine, It just I cannot play my pokemon Y because it says my save is corrupted and also the same with my other game. Should I just update my sysNAND to 8.1 with game rom like ultimate nes remix or restore my backup NAND through gateway? Which one is better?

I did the procedure in this order:

back up all the files you have on 3ds sd card
format emunand with sysnand (6x - 9.2) before downgrade
sysnand backup (maybe need another sd card, standard 3ds sd card = 2GB)
downgrade to 4.2u and restart 3ds
format sysnand 4.2 (remove sd card before it)
copy back the sd card files and put in our 3ds
start emunand 9.2
upgrade emunand to 9.4

doing this procedure I did not lose any save game I had in my sysnand 9.2 previously, but I do not have retail cartridge, I had only the mario kart 7 and 3dland installed by eshop.

note: i not tested with pokemon because I did not have the cartridge or purchased from eshop before using the gateway cartridge. :P

I did not do mine that way.

I backed up my 9.2 sysnand then downgraded to 4.2 or what ever it was for usa then upgraded to 4.5 with a ACNL then i formated my emunand with sysnand and it worked the same as if i did it the way you did. I also backed up my 4.5 sysnand.

I also did like you did, my sysNAND is 8.1 then downgrade to 4.2 after that update to 4.5 with acnl rom. After I cannot play my pokemon Y I update it with super smash bros rom to 8.1 and I can play my pokemon Y back with the save game. Then downgrade back to 4.2 and update to 4.5 with acnl rom just to test CFW 4.5 to install cia game. Now I'm want to stick with 8.1. So thats why I'm asking which one is better, update with super smash bros rom to 8.1 or restore my original NAND backup.

*Super Mario Bros 2 and Mario Kart 7 save work fine when I update emuNAND to 9.4, its just some game like pokemon, super smash bros and Harvest moon 3D, the save is corrupted but when you revert back by update your sysNAND from 4.5 to 8.1 and above I can play the game with save thats was corrupted before just fine.

If you boot intoo your emunand (without gatway card) you can play your pokemon y card on 4.5 that is how i do it :D

My pokemon Y was corrupted on the save but i restated it and it has worked fine after that.

But if you have powersaves and after you restart it just restore your backup save and that will work too.

Let me get this right, it's only fine because you've erased the old save and started a fresh?

I want to wait for a better alternative :).

Yes right. But if you back up your old save with powersaves you can restore your old save tho.

yeah, thats just a noob friendly guide....you can actually update emunand via rom/card,system update prompts, or eshop, but it leaves room for people to mess up(by *thinking* they have emunand set up when they don't)....so its not advised unless you know what your doing

basically if you KNOW your in emunand, you can update however you like, but if you update to 8.x+ in gateway mode without emunand set up it bricks sysnand....some people said they didnt, but i tested it and got bricked, hundshamer tested and got bricked, and the countless other people who got bricked by updating sysnand in gateway mode.....basically if your new to it all stick to the guides, they have less room for error
