Hacking So how did Gateway do it?

Wasn't it supposed to be pretty much impossible to get anything to work with 7.X/8.X encryption because, well, it's encryption and the keys aren't available? Are there people trying to hack Gateway code to figure out what they did, or was the idea of it being impossible overblown in the first place?

im actually interested in knowing this, im assuming it will of been some in depth hardware hacking i.e decapping and stuff as people basically said it was IMPOSSIBLE to retrieve the keys used

unless of course there was something that was overlooked that allows the re-initialization of the keys like what normally only happens on bootup.....but then surely 6.x save encryption should of been fixed in the same update....then again maybe it was but they re-broke it to keep old save compatibility to save on the uproar until they can figure out a method to convert all the fake 6.x encrypted saves to use the proper 6.x save encryption

Yeah it must of been something pretty major for them to crack it, I would imagine they spent some time, money and hard effort on it!. Respect to Gateway for there efforts, you can't deny them of that! also I don't want to know and nor should anyone else, its a secret...shhh.

people have reversed gateway's stuff before, people like bond697 and co, i'm sure others, if they care at all i guess they will have ago at gateway's new stuff too

you quoted your own answer yeah it only works on 4.1-45

My hope is that gateway can pick apart smealums hack when it finally comes out and implement it for a gateway cart on the new 3ds systems on the latest firmware. I would even gladly pay for a new cartridge at that point because gateway would truly deserve it

Gateway already has homebrew from Smealum, it was implemented back in 2.2. But if your referring to smealum's hack working with newer FW for Gateway, that's never going to happen, if it could GW would of done it by now, Smealum's so called hack wont do jack for that, I can promise you that, no need to lose further sleep over that ever happening!

i think he means smealums usermode only homebrew enabling exploit that has continuously been explained about how it doesn't have the right access to enable flashcards .....aka ssspwn
