I've been struggling with this problem for a few days now, and I've tried Google for help but I feel like I've hit a wall.

I bought a "XBERSTAR 2.4GHZ wireless controller joystick gamepad for snes/nes super nintendo classic mini" (Amazon title, since I can't post links yet) with the hopes that I could use it to play SNES games on the Wii. It comes with a USB adapter, and an SNES classic adapter. I wasn't overly optimistic about the usb adapter since I've read that the Wii's USB ports aren't made to handle it, but I got a bit excited when I realized that the SNES classic adapter also plugs into the Wiimote. The controller paired fine (according to the controller), but I couldn't get any of the buttons to register at any point. Is this something that's capable of working, or is it a dead end?

I noticed that 8bitdo has a similar adapter that allows you to connect their controllers to an SNES classic, would that be something that I could get to work on the Wii, or would that just be a waste of money?

I don't mind if I have to spend a bit of money, I just want something relatively close to an SNES controller that is also wireless. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. I searched the forums for something that was related, but either there was nothing there or I don't know how to use the search function properly.

Edit: I already have the wii classic controller, but I hate having the wire attached to the wiimote.

From what I've read there are some 8bitdo controllers that work on the Wii, but you will need to install a lower firmware on the controller for it to work, and even then, some Virtual Console titles have trouble with it.
That's what one has to deal with if you use third party accessories.

Thanks for replying.

That's not a deal breaker for me I don't think. The primary reason I want the wireless is for NES, SNES, and GBA games. For anything Virtual Console I have a knockoff Wavebird (until I find a legit one) that I can use.

Would it be hard for a caveman like me to figure out how to install the firmware? Also, would I still need the adapter?

This is what I was referring to. Sorry if it doesn't help much, as I said I personally haven't brought these controllers.

It seems complicated by my standards, but I think I'm capable of following step by step instructions. Looks like it doesn't require the bluetooth adapter either so that's nice.

Ordered the controller off of Amazon, will follow up when I have a chance to try it.

I know it's been a couple months since I last posted about it (been moving), but I followed the instructions on the reddit thread but I can't seem to get it to connect once I disconnect the Wii remote... Apparently I'm not capable of following step by step instructions
