Hacking SNEEK+DI quick guide

It makes a difference. If you follow that approach, you will need a working usb drive as well.

In my opinion, it's best to start with a sneek only setup (without di) I had sd cards that weren't recognised if bootmii was installed as boot 2. In that case, you can power the wii
with the sd card removed, insert the sd card and launch bootmii from the homebrew channel.
If your sneek setup is working, you can copy your nand folders over to your usb drive and use those for a uneek setup as well. (you know they are fine)
If the uneek setup is working, you can add di and an fst extracted game in the games folder.
 
obcd, that sounds like a good plan.

Ultimately what I'd ideally like is; a Wii that shows the Bootmii screen at power up (ie bootmii installed as boot2) and then gives the choice of using an emulated NAND installed on my existing USB drive (which is currently being used by CFG loader) or using the system NAND [ I think switch2uneek does this and I realise you can get the same effect by removing the SD card before turning on the Wii ]

Once the new DI is available that lets UNEEK use .wbfs files to load games (rather than the other format) then I will probably just use the emulated NAND on the USB drive all the time.
 
I am working on an application based upon priibooter.
It can be installed in priiloader and gives you 4 options.
Boot postloader, the System menu, The homebrew channel or neek2O.

After a few seconds, it boots the last chosen selection.

Stupid question ... what's neek2O ?
 
It's the new uneek and sneek that will be released this evening.
It has a di with wbfs support, and allows to use an emulated nand in a subfolder.
It was created by Overjoy and me. That's what the 2O stands for.
We needed a slightly different name to distinguish between the original uneek / sneek and ours.
 
It's basically just a change of 3 files on your sd card and harddrive to switch from traditional neek to neek2o.

Does it make any difference if I go down the UNEEK route ie only use the SD card at bootup rather than stored the NAND on the SD card ?

Well it makes a difference in that you'll need a USB drive for it to work. I personally prefer UNEEK - allows the system menu to access the SD card for saves and stuff, and my USB HDD loads *way* faster than my SD. I did have an extra portable harddrive that I decided to dedicate to this though

You don't need to do anything to your actual Wii (except install bootmii if you don't already have it). You just need to make a 4.2/4.3 E/U NAND. There are a lot of ways to get virgin NANDs, but Modmii is the easiest. Keep in mind that the Modmii NAND won't work with Wiiconnect24 unless you change the serial number to a proper one

A agree that a more up to date tutorial would make life easier.
I haven't been here for a while and am out of sync with where SNEEK/UNEEK are. If you could tell me what you think may be a problem I would gladly update this tut as to avoid confusions and misleading info.

Feel free to copy, paste, edit the tut in a post and I'll update the first post.

No big deal ChokeD. It's still a great tutorial. Some things need small updates. I will start a tutorial based on modmii first and will only proceed to bare compiling yourself afterwards.
It's pretty complex stuff the first time you start with it. Specially the need for the kernel.bin on sd and on usb is a little confusing. The fact they all have the same name and the same size doesn't help much either. With more up to date, I was thinking about the use of modmii. Thanks for letting me use your work.

I already created an emulated NAND using modmii latest version. Under the COPY_TO_USB folder I have these folders :

games, nands, sneek, wbfs

Under COPY_TO_SD :

apps, bootmii, sneek, wad

So now if I wish to play my wbfs game backup, where do I copy the game to under COPY_TO_USB? Is it under games or WBFS folder? Do I also need to install cIOSes (d2x / hermes / rodries) like softmodding an actual Wii followed by installing a usb loader like cfg?

Sorry for the noob questions..

I was confused at first. You don't need to do any "soft mod" anything in the emulated nand. It contained the official "looks like" non-touched ios so that any backup game can be played there. You don't need any cios there.
Suggest you use a clean sd and copy copy_to_sd in the root, and copy copy_to_usb to usb drive root directory.
Your game should be in wbfs format under root directory named wbfs directory in the usb drive.
Atm, I can only press 1 from system menu and use overlay game list. I am still waiting for some usb load work there. B-)

Well I saw this in the first page of the topic :

If you can't get UNEEK+DI to boot

Check to make sure you have a game in the /games folder as UNEEK+DI will not boot otherwise.

You don't need a Cios.

if you extract the game with discex, copy it to an id subfolder of the games folder.

if you think neek2o doesn't boot because of game isues, simply rename di.bin and font.bin in the usb:/sneek folder and try to boot without di.bin and font.bin.
It should boot you to the neek system menu, and it doesn't care about the games and wbfs folder.

if that one isn't booting either, you have other problems.

Ok, thanks. Just need to know one more thing. Uneek+DI only requires the HDD to be formatted to FAT32 with 32k clusters right? For the SD, FAT16 will do?

Thanks again. I'll try verifying the hand dump through the tool you mentioned. Is it safe or is it likely to make a difference if I was simply to delete the channel icons with questions marks?
 
I assume you mean on real nand in the system menu? Basically, there is a file in your nand file system called uid.sys that contains an entry for every channel. If you remove the entries for the bad channels in there, the system menu will no longer search for them. Some applications use another approach and scan the title folder to find out what is installed.
Something you could try is a setup with postloader and neekbooter. You can have priiloader launch neekbooter, and that will start postloader. In such a setup, the system menu isn't used anymore. Normally, you can launch the channels from within postloader. It's just an idea. It's only possible if you are able to enter priiloader setup by holding the wii reset button during the launch of neek2o.
