Although this is ridiculous, this certainly isn't why Ethiopia will always be a third world nation.

Enlighten me.

Natural resources, production capability, agriculture, etc. etc. are kind of huge factors.

While policies like this certainly aren't helping, it's not as if having a free and open internet would single-handedly fix the nation's many, many, woes.

this VOIP-law was already active end may, and it is already 2 weeks later when it comes in the news.

anyway , for a dicatorship, you have to control the media and so the internet. It isn't that it is suprising for a country as Ethopia.
but 15 years for using skype seems a bit harsh to me... in my country that is almost the same lenght as for murder ( I think it is here 18 years or so)...

Wow, that's fucked up. I also use Skype to avoid high fees for long distance calls to some family members of mine. I can see it being a problem for people living over there.

So using Skype will land you up to 15 years in jail, huh? Damn 3rd world countries...
