Hacking sky3ds question

Hi,
I have 3ds XL with version ver 7.1.0-14u. I am about to order sky3ds from modchip direct.
I am interesting in playing just the ROM. I don't want to other stuff like homebrew etc.

do i keep my dsi version as it is or do i upgrade to latest version? please advice.

Will this card work fine? will this card also play all DSi(.nds) roms?

Sky3DS only plays 3DS roms.

You cannot play any .nds games with the cart.

hmm.. I change my mind.. going for gateway 3ds. I believe that way i can play any region games. thought of buying from and it seems to be out of stock. thinking of buying from http://www.modchipfactory.com/.

is there any place i can find the step by step details of setting up and using gateway 3ds. (backing up my original version etc.)

I see in some places mentioned gateway 3ds supports only "Currently, gateway 3ds only run 3ds games on N3DS V4.1-4.5". Are these old posts?!! I thought gateway 3ds will support up to 9.2
