I currently have a Gateway and I'm trying to trade it for a sky3DS. I was wondering if I could use private multiplayer headers with roms. I read somewhere that the DiskWriter utility overwrites headers using the template file. Is there a template modification guide somewhere? Also, have people been banned for using private headers?

from official sky3ds how to build game header template http://filetrip.net/dl?vBHqt3NOoQ if you have your own private dump rom you can build your own header template...save from winhex to .txt and change your template on diskwriter to ur customized own private header template than copy the game to diskwriter...done....me personaly use the latest 2/4/2015(changelogs 1. Some Online game bugs fixed. )template from sky website and didnt have banned issue i play online last night Street figter IV 3d and super Smash bro 3ds and mario kart 7 for two and half hour straight until my batry dies...that all i can say.... *cheers

The instructions there just show how to extract the header and send to sky3ds team - they don't show how to generate the template.txt file. Do you have better instructions? I want to generate template.txt file with my own private header, not send my header for everybody to use.

Honestly I have no idea either. The gateway headers were pretty easy to do since you had a program do all the heavy lifting.

I would love to keep my Gateway, but they're not going to support 9.5 emunand on the n3ds for 'a while'. I'm planning to get the n3ds on release so I don't really have much of a choice.

I'd wait were I you. People have already "cracked" the N3DS 9.5 keys, so Gateway will likely have emuNAND for it up and running within a week of N3DS support being released.

If you're worried about being banned, Gateway is definitely the better option. You can unlink sysNAND and emuNAND, then easily use your own private headers. Even if you still somehow manage to be banned then, you can format emuNAND and start fresh with an unbanned NNID/headers.

Going a bit off topic, but could you give me a quick run down on the whole linking thing? Never really heard about it until recently. Or at least noticed.

Basically all it affected before all this banning stuff was issues with saving folder/icon positioning. But you can get separate NNIDs on emuNAND and sysNAND if you unlink them. You just have to format sysNAND (with your SD card out of your console) after setting up and updating emuNAND.

Does it come originally unlinked or linked? I notice sysnand and emunand have different icon size and placement along with wifi settings.

Also how do you extract a header for the sky? I have them extracted on my gateway but I imagine it's probably a different format.

They typically start out linked, but if you have different wifi settings between the two and your icons save position after you move them in emuNAND, they're unlinked.

I have no idea how to do anything with a sky3DS, sorry.

only the game you want to play with your own private headers, chip ID dont need to be change unless you want it to be the same with your original cartridge. I'll just use the default that come from sky3ds template and update the online ID header if the template does not have one.

Thanks for the screenshot but I can't seem to click it to see what's going on in there.
This is a template for sky3ds DiskWriter. You need to load this template with DiskWriter first before you can write any retail 3ds roms. Sky3ds always update their template, you can download a new and updated template from their website. Some game in their template dont have online header like Ultimate NES Remix, so u needs to put the online header yourself or you can put your own private header that you got from the original cartridge.
