SimCity is a series beloved by millions, and one that's sadly been neglected of late while the Sims franchise went supernova. Now, according to MCV, it's coming back.

Only, you may not like what comes next.

It seems that EA is bringing SimCity back as a Facebook game, hoping to steal a share of the casual market away from the likes of Zynga's CityVille and FarmVille.

It's most likely in development at EA's social specialists, Playfish.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to pretend this news story instead started with the line "SimCity 5 Coming To PC In 2012".[/p]

Well shit. I like Sim City, but i don't use Facebook. Good news for those Sim City fans that use Facebook I guess.

Whatever, SimCity is so 1998. As much as it was cool back then, it can't be as good now. I am more looking forward to the rebooting of King's Quest done by Traveller's Tales this year.

Javascript and after that some of the scripting plugins (flash/silverlight and so forth) have been having some interesting things happen lately ( http://bellard.org/jslinux/tech.html as well as node.js ) and we have had java games for years.

Assuming they do not wind it too hard into the facebook API (rats nest of stupidity that it is) I imagine it will be quite portable.

gotta love the fact that this will cause even more addiction to facebook. Even stranger is that these games are free.

I think it could be a legitimate contender to Farmville's success, if developed right. Can't wait to see it!

I loved this game back in the day, and even more recently than that.
I hate that it's going to be a Facebook game, but it may actually be the only one that I'll ever play.

    Yeah, you don't belong here.

Oh great. I can just imagine the invites I'll be getting from my mom.

The only thing that would make this interesting would be the ability to come along and drop a natural disaster on other people's cities.

10 children may have died because of this announcement and 1 may die every day this game is on Facebook.

EA have some sense, Facebook games kill, release it for the PC or smartphones.

SimCity Deluxe for iPad went on sale for 99 cents this month also.

There is also an a very interesting interview with Will Wright here for those of you who know who he is and care, its 5 pages long too.
