Hardware should I still get a ps3?

hey folks, I skipped the last gen console and played most of the last gen games either from psp or NDS releases. in 2013 I bought a new gaming laptop that could handle most of multiplatfform last gen games. my question: is a PS3 still worth it? back then I hold my purchase because my favorite game (persona 5) has not been released, and it will be released in ps4 anyway, so I couldn't care to buy a PS3

the only game that made me want to buy a PS3 was FF XIII (which turned out to be a crap after I played it firsthand on PC), now I feel there are no more reasons for me to buy a ps3 except their console exclusives such as infamous and ni no kuni.

However, are ps3 exclusives a 'must play'?

I am traditionally a sony console owner, so I'm kinda compulsive to buy all the sony consoles, but if most of the best games are available in PC, I probably will wait until the price becomes very cheap (I also want to buy a Wii... to play gamecube games!)

let me know what you think. :)

Yes, you should. I have it and you wont regret it!

Thanks for your advices julialy, really appreciate them. If someone else would want to share some wisdom with me on this matter or give some tips, then jump in.

An alternative to Step 3 is get the homebrew "Control Fan Utility" that regulates CPU/RSX temperature by adjusting fan speed. This usually keeps my temps under 60 degrees Celsius.
I use Payload for auto regulation and Max when I'm on verge of 60-70 C (when I forget to run the homebrew after a few hours)

That's even integrated into webman now, its fantastic.

i'd personally say no and just upgrade your pc but that's just me
These days you can get a PS3 for around $100, that kind of money would give you only an insignificant PC upgrade wheras on last gen consoles it lets you play a vast library of exclusives.

Can't agree more with your opinion, but just as I said earlier, I'm not sure whether it's worth to buy it if I'll need to repair it after kinda-short to kinda-long time of using the PS3, which is purely luck based (I take care of my things, so at least one problem less).

Sure, everything will finally break, but even so - I want to be able to repair it. But is it possible with PS3? I guess that the RSX/CPU will break, or it'll catch YLoD, and what next? Reball it? How's the durability of this kind of fix? I'm asking the same question for some time now and still didn't receive a definite answer, even from electronic services that're doing this kind of stuff (well, one of them said that after reball it should work for about "3 months", so it's not worth it; but personally I think that they're simply reflowing it while charging as if they've done the reballing).

It may seem stupid, but seriously - I simply want to be safe than sorry.

true i personally love Red dead redemption but i don't think its worth getting a ps3 over but as i said that's just me ;p
i'd rather just save up

hey folks, thanks for the reply. I already bought a ps3 for 110.

these are the games that I have bought:
the last of us (for 13 bucks, yay!)
infamous
infamous 2
resonance of fate
uncharted 2
uncharted 3
enchanted arms

still hunting for more games though. I have heard good reviews about red read redemption, but since I don't really like open world/gta clones, I'm not too sure whether I will enjoy it (I have bought gta iv and saints rows 3, but barely played them. tried watch dogs, and didn't really like it either. la noire is the only game that interested me)

Dead Rising 2; OTR is pretty cool even with the framerate issues

Hey guys, I ended up buying some ps3s as I needed a way to xfer xploit to vita and opted originally for the ORIGINAL ps3(A01?) with hw ps2 support(pseudo ps2 backup) and then stumbled across a guy selling 2001a slims supposedly NIB. Mine Showed up apparently NIB and just checked a little while ago 3.0.1 fw(see my thread).

Since I ended up buying two(got both at REALLY good prices the refurb org from newegg although their price is trending WAY higher than what I paid(was originally going to say fsck it) and then again the NIB 2001a again trending WAY higher than what I paid, but like I mentioned the one I got is golden }:D) so I also bought a buncha jrpgs and one infamous which came today not sure which.

Also decided WTH to buy Oblivious and Skyrim to see what they look like on console... all I can do is :shudder: (looks like --- and that oblivious v. my old 4800+ x2/7600GT when it came out FFS!)

BUT I have the Final Fantasies that I missed out on again and a few others and THOSE games SHOULD just be on consoles. They're what consoles SHOULD be doing rather than feeble attempts at shoehorning in PC games, fsck oblivious looked AWFUL, OTOH well no I can't say that as I only had a 1280x1024 CRT for oblivious and it still looked better than my 720p LCD TV... which while not bad is no assininely expensive TV that I'd use a few handful of hours per year...

hey guys, a question, do I need to downgrade my ps3 so I can cheat/hack my save file? honestly I have no more time to finish a game that demands grinding or hundred hours. I just want to finish and play the next game.

You have to use a homebrew PC application called Bruteforce Save Data to add cheats onto a specific save.

ok, do I need to jailbreak my ps3? I don't want to jailbreak it yet, it looks so complicated.

EDIT:
also, do game from different regions have different address for the cheat?

I have no idea if you need to hack the PS3 for your modified save to work. It absolutely works on CFW but not exactly sure on OFW.
You can try it.

Bruteforce has cheats for each region, I think. You can use Cheats if Bruteforce has it available though

hey guys, finally I'm able to play with my ps3 after installing OFW 4.70. some noobs question here, can install ps3 games to my hard drive so I will have shorter loading time (and protecting the lens)?

also, is 4.70 firmware jailbreakable?

1. you need to jailbreak
2. you need to downgrade with a hardware flasher first: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=39766

holy moley. it looks so intimidating. ummm I think I will hold off the jailbreaking for a while since I just want to toy with ps2 and ps1 emulators. O_O;
