Hello, I have experience installing a9lh in my other 3ds, but I have this other o3ds that I want to install custom firmware on, should I install a9lh or is there a newer preferred custom firmware?

Just follow the 3ds.guide, my new 3DS XL also came with that firmware and after I installed AL9H (there was no b9s back then) I updated to the latest firmware.

3ds guide (/luma3ds) no longer support a9lh so there will be no further updates for the a9lh entrypoint so you should do the b9s

Just follow 3ds.guide and install Boot9Strap and Luma. BTW, A9LH / Boot9Strap are exploits, not custom firmwares. Luma is most likely the custom firmware you're used to using.

New versions of Luma are only being released as Boot9Strap payloads, so unless you want to run an old version of Luma for some reason, stick with Boot9Strap.
