I am having the same problem right now.. about iplayer.. i just bought it like three weeks ago.. and now it gets blocked...
just great.....
dry.gif

i haven't updated my DSi though..
They should have thought that their flash cart would have the possibility to get blocked and had planned for it..
It was really my fault though for buying it lol.. so i don't blame anybody but myself..
Is there gonna be a hope for iplayer? or is it dead really? no one knows yet? I emailed them through [email protected]
about the 1.4 firmware but no replies..
Anyway, i dun wanna mess this thread up so, i suggest to those people who want iplayer to wait for further announcement before getting a DSi player imo... at the meantime, iplayer is messed up! for those who updated already.. >.

Well, there's always the matter of space on your SD card. Unconverted videos tend to be over twice the size as the smaller, converted ones.

Say wut!?
blink.gif
if you have an 8gb micro SDHC card using the AVI format you could theoretically fit about 11 full length 700mb divx/xvid encoded movies!!!

with WMV format probably double!

with RMBV format probably Triple!

with FLV format probably etc etc .. well you get the idea!

remember the Iplayer handles a lot of formats!

I assume you mean when you say converted you are referring to dpg format? ... From experience a good quality DPG averages out to about 300mb or more for an average sized film.... so bigger than WMV in some cases and always bigger than FLV!

(Also remember your re-encoding a compressed format usually AVI to another compressed format (DPG) ..so you will get loss in quality)

Encoding is always goin to be the PITA time consuming exercise but all formats are easily accessible via the net anyhow so its just a matter of downloading them but best thing about Iplayer its an all in one media card it plays just about every format out there and definitely plays the most POPULAR formats out there!

For the Die hard DPG fans you can also use MOONSHELL on your mem card too as the Iplayer runs homebrew remember!

Sure they may of messed up with the no probable way to upgrade the card with the latest DSi firmware block but 99.9% of us who have bothered to read the forum posts EXPECTED this to happen at some point either with a proper update or like with Wii a game update!

It was pretty predictable with most owners knowing that the firmware of the DSi CAN be updated by wifi it was just a matter of WHEN!!!

I'm sure though the Iplayer team are still raking the cash in with the millions of possible purchases of this card by DS lite/Phat owners out that are still out there obviously overshadowing the number of DSi owners probably 50-1 or more!

It would be foolish to bitch to them about MY FIRMWARE THAT I (Yes I) UPDATED TO NOW BLOCKS YOUR CARD! ...Same as it is really with all the 10 or more FLASH CARDS that are currently also blocked with only about 2 or 3 that can be hardware updated!

Sh1t happens all of you that updated unknowingly and found your flash card is now blocked ... then its just one of those things NINTENDO has a legitimate right to do this and protect their assets!

/rant mode now off!

...well, an unconverted, full-size AVI will aways be bigger than any DPG video...because DPGs have a much lower resolution. I mean, there are many better compression formats out there, but to get it smaller than a DPG you'd probably have to convert it anyway, which kind of defeats the purpose.

I don't know if I understand this well but can't you just listen to your MP3/Ipod/Zune/Whatever while playing on your DS?
i kinda agree because ds has really bad audio and the quality of the videos are pretty bad

Use Headphones/In earphones its a lot better

and video quality using the iPlayer is excellent you don't need to convert them in most cases you just play it straight from the original file read my review for the test file information of what it plays

Display aspect ratio : 2.35
Frame rate : 30.000 fps

It played back flawless no lag and pretty damn good quality

It helps loads if your source video is clean to begin with if you use a crappy clip with a crappy bitrate etc it will be worse on the smaller screen of the ds!

additional answers looking back through posts in this thread ..

Since the Iplayer can not play Mp4 that means I have to use AVI. What is better AVI or Mp4 in quility?

And also the bad thing is that AVI is 2x bigger than Mp4.

EDIT: I will buy it if they ever make a new firmware update that has a application which you can whach Youtube videos something like what the Itouch has. A Web Browser would be nice.

It plays MP4 a tip is to rename the file extension from .MP4 to .AVI and it for some reason in most cases will play back better with no lag!
smile.gif

re web browser ... It can already use BUNJALOO and DS ORGANIZE!
smile.gif

re youtube ... just download the videos you want as FLV it plays this format natively!

nice explanation you got there

I purchased a DSiPlayer and have yet to get it to work.

My feelings is I can quickly copy a video to the MicroSDHC card for videos to take on the road while travelling. No need for any other video player as our portable DVD player just died. Great for the kids to use. If I ever getting it working, I will be getting a couple more for the kids.

Followed the instructions.

Code:
1?Download the iPlayer operation system (OS), unzip and copy into MicroSD.
2?Copy the movie to MicroSD [VIDEO] folder, music to [MUSIC] folder.
3: Turn on the power and enjoy the DS video expert.

Copied videos to the "video" directory. Copied music to the "music" directory.
I get a iPlayer splash screen and nothing else. I can push all the buttons and it just stays in the splash screen.

No contact from the support site and nothing in their manual or on their FAQ to deal with this issue.

At present I cannot recommend this card due to my experience.

Anybody here have any suggestions for me to change my view?

I read your review. I wonder why the review didn't show up when I searched for the iplayer.

I followed the instructions.
Took out the 8 gig microSDHC card and reformatted as vfat.
Re-unzipped the _system files and installed onto the card.
Re-inserted the card and booted the system.
Came up with iPlayer splash screen and it just stayed there.
None of the buttons did anything.
Pulled the card out and put it back into the computer, no folders.

Tried a couple of times.
I will keep trying.

Tonight I tried.
1. New card, straight out of the package. Got to the splash screen.
2. Unzip the files right on the memory stick. Got to the splash screen.
3. Copied files from enclosed CD. Got to the splash screen.

I cannot think of anything else to do. There is some reason that this just doesn't want to work. I will try contacting dsiplayer.com again and see what happens.

When I first saw this, it looked so promising. Now I have my doubts about the quality.

could be the card your trying?!

Do you have any other cards you can test with like a 1gb or 2gb or 4 gb card?

I used an 8gb its a Sandisk Class 4
smile.gif

Do you have access to another DS to test it with!?

Sat_Fool has some serious problems with his/her card.
Are you saying that the folders are gone after you insert them
in the DS then the PC?

are you using DSi at firmware 1.4?

did you try changing microSD cards?
it could be the microSD corrupting the folders. mine worked right away
but am not satisfied with the compatibility though..

The iPlayer will not even load with 1.4 its blocked by that update!

note before adding files to play you must put the loader onto the the mem card an start the iPlayer up with the mem card in to create the needed VIDEO and MUSIC folders ...then you need to return this mem card to the computer and add your files to play back ...read the guide in my signature it tells you what to do
smile.gif

you could also maby try a different card reader for your micro SD the one supplied is not that great

1. kobykaan - I do not have any other brand or size of cards. I only have 8gig Kingston cards. I have tried it on two different DS Lites.
2. altorn - I have tried many things with this. When I first got the iPlayer, I put the _system files and Video and Music folders. After reading this forum, I deleted all and tried again with only the OS. I then reformatted and tried again with only OS *_system" directory. I have tried a brand new, out of package, virgin card with only the _system files on the card. I have even tried to unzip the files on the card and delete the Readme.doc and *.zip file so only the _system directory is there.

I am not trying this with a DSi, only two different DS Lites.

Just tried something else.

Put the first card into my camera and formatted it there.
Put the card into the computer and copied _system to the root directory.
System still only boots into the i Player splash screen. No directories are created on the card. No change in menu.

If I remove the OS and put the card in, I the "NO FIND SYSTEM FILES" on the display.

I loaded an *.nds rom onto the card and tried it in the CycloDS and ti worked as expected. It worked in my Camera, which was a test. There is nothing wrong with the card.

There is nothing wrong with the Memory Card. The problem is the iPlayer OS some how and maybe the versions of DS Lites that ww own. Both were purchased at the same time. I would be more suspect of the OS if it won't work if the user creates the directories for Music and Videos.

As I have never had issues with Linux and working with files at work or in the past. I wonder it here is a chance that there is an issue with the iPlayer not working with anything but Windows. If this is the case, I will have to return the card as I don't have access to any Windows machines. Has anybody had issues using Linux or Mac to get the player working or can you test it.

Thank you all whom are trying to help.
