I’ve got a dell inspiron n5010 15r. It’s got an intel i5 with 8gb ram and a 240gb ssd. I believe I got it refurbished in 2008. I’ve cleaned it out a few times and reapplied the thermal paste. Runs like a champ....until in installed windows10. In back on Windows 7 now. I don’t use it for gaming. I use it to manage media and my consoles.

3 versions,
IIRC the 2nd version only supports up to 300MB\s (theory) or something like that, the sata 2 is known as sata 300, while sata 3 is known as sata 600

if he is interested he probably can get a pcie card to use sata drives with the full speed. i am not sure if he will be able to boot from them easily tough...

not like a normal motherboard has 7 of them and people really only use 1 for the gpu
you mean pci-e lanes, the board usually has extra lanes
but your gpu doesn't even use the 16 lanes of the processor anyway (if pci e gen 3)

He's referring to NVMe's that use a PCI-e bus. It's a completely separate port, and has speeds over 1500mb/s

Which is like 10x faster than your average performance based HDD, and nearly 3-4x faster than most SATA SSDs.

was talking about sonicMC saying his mobo only supports sata 2 that he could use a pci e to sata card if he wants a speed boost for his hdds\ssd but i am not sure if he was able to boot from them.. but they are great to put more sata ports in a pc

sad specs cuz:
intel meltdown\MUI bugs etc stuff (bought this stuff last year, and then this shit happened)
over paid for the ram.
only 1 gpu, doesn't mine a lot of criptocurrencies (however it runs games very weill but you can have the most powerfull gpu but that won't fix shitty coded\ported games)
old ass display that i am waiting for it to stop working to get an excuse to get a new one, until then this one is working and i am good with it
the samsung nvme was updated with the lastest buggy firmware that samsung removed from the website shortly and didn't fix\provided a downgrade (damn auto update)
and the sadest spec of them all: windows 10*


*windows 10 actually works wonderfully for me, have no issues, but it's a bad OS based on everyone's opinion

for laptops\mini itx tiny builds its totally ok, but with all that stuff he got, didn't get a true nvme

you have to consider the 2 1080ti's taking up most of the real estate in the pcie slots

no current gpu takes advantage of more than 8 pcie gen3 lanes. if ya interested send me a pm, and tomorrow i will get some videos explaining it further
either way, its a x299 chipset
the cpu alone has 28 lanes + the chipset lanes.
its more than enough, my cpu only has 16 lanes and it would be perfectly fine if i wanted to put 2 gpus+the nvme (i do believe my chipset has 4 extra)

God, sometimes I wish I still had my old Compaq pc with 6150se nforce 430 integrated graphics. It's probably just the feeling associated with those times. But still. that shit was comfy as hell.

the sata m.2 drives and the nvmes are physically the same size usually. (size of that drive is 2280, same as mine)
the only difference is the protocol they communicate... (they both use the m.2 slot)
but yeah, probably had a real reason to use a sata m.2
