I'm selling my 3DS and plan to buy a 3DS XL when it comes out. Will the SD card and all of my downloads work on the 3DS XL? Basically I need to know whether to keep the SD card or sell it with the system.

Nope, the games on the memory card will only work on the unit you bought them with, unless you transfer them to another system, then it'll work obviously.
The best thing you could do is get an XL first and then sell your other 3DS, otherwise you'll lose all your games, data and stuff.

It seems I've made quite the folly. I formatted the 3DS system assuming the SD Card held everything. Oh, well, live and learn. I bought my 3DS on launch and it had lots of downloaded games for the early buyers. Would've at least liked to include those when I sold it if I coudln't keep them for myself.
