Notice: I am currently looking for footage reviewers. To apply and for more information, please send me a private message on here or on Discord.

SegmentRunning
is a monthly competition where competitors speedrun a game from the beginning to a certain point. The average length of these segments can range from a couple of minutes to around half an hour. The goal of the competition is to get people into speedrunning or just to have fun! At the end of every month, the leaderboard will be posted in the round's thread. Good luck and have fun!
To submit your run, use the "Run submission" button. You can also submit games you'd like to run with the "Game submission" button.

March 2018 - Super Mario Bros.: Complete World 2-4
The timer stops when you touch the axe

  • No cheating or using save states!
  • The timer is paused during loading screens.
  • The timer begins when the player gains movement.
  • Footage reviewers can submit runs, but cannot review their own.
  • The recording must begin on the title screen or the loading screen before gameplay.
  • If the game is not on PC, it can be emulated or played on the real hardware. It's your choice!
  • If the game is available on multiple platforms, you can choose any version, as long as they are the same game.

I've made some changes to the site.
Based on user feedback, it's not entirely obvious where to find the current round, so I've added a 'This month' banner to the main page. I've also added the SMB-styled SegmentRunning logo to the bottom of the game's page for preservation, accessibility and style.
Oh, and I moved the notice to the top, because... reasons.

Oh hey I didn't even see this thread

Well, guess I'll take a stab at it in a bit

Edit: Here's an idea @smileyhead; how about all the people interested in speedrunning follow you, and every time a new segmentrun is posted you push out a blog post with a link to the thread? That way we're notified every month

I think this sounds like a great idea. I won't be entering, I'm too mediocre at games to do speedrunning, but I do enjoy watching other people's speedruns on occasion.

That's the point! We're all amateurs here! Come join! :)

The thing is, practicing doesn't seem to make me much better at games. I just kind of hit my peak performance at "meh". And I know I'd need to improve a lot in order to not die constantly when trying to speedrun.

Eh, the more "meh" people enter, the better your odds are at placing higher than you think. As it stands it sounds like you might be one of only... like... 5 people entering this month
