I want to get on wifi but my computer uses wpa and I can't downgrade to wep, So I was thinking of turning off my security altogether, is that a bad idea?

If you turn off your security anybody ner your house can acess it.
Try logging into the router and on the security page there are usually options to change the encryption.
Atleast mine does.
