Hardware SD formatter question?

Ok so I heard that the SD card associations SD card formatter is the one to use. I did format my card but I have one quick question to someone who knows alot about how this software works. I started the full format and it was taking awhile to format so I walked away to do something and when I came back my windows 8 machine was on the lock screen. I was wondering if this affects the format or if it kept formatting when my computer was locked. I know formatting an sd card is a pretty delicate process. Also, it was doing the overwrite erase part when this happened. Just me being paranoid I guess.

Unless the system is put in sleep/hybernation you're fine. All processes are still running as normal at the lock screen.

Ok I wasn't sure since windows 8 is a little bit different. I just wanted to know because that type of format is very touchy and I wanted to make sure that I was doing it correctly.
