After formatting my emunand with gateway's menu, I find I'm no longer able to write to the SD card using an sd card reader. It tells me it's write protected even if I try to format it. Obviously the write protection switch is off and It still thinks it's write protected.
Any ideas?

I had a similar issue, but it was my card reader going back (EVERY disk was write-protected). If windows won't let you format it, you can try putting it into some other device that will let you format a card (I had a stubborn MicroSD card that wouldn't read in my 3DS, but read fine in Windows...put it in my phone and formatted it..fixed the problem). If you have another card, you might see if it gives you the same issue, which would point to it being the reader and not the card.

Make sure nothing is causing the "write protect" to slide back. Had this issue and I had to fold a piece of paper around it to keep my card reader from activating the write protect.

You can't format a write-protected disk. Whatever is causing it to show as protected will also prevent you from formatting.

The problem is that Windows is seeing the card as write-protected. You can't progress forward until you identify and fix that problem.

This most likely means that either your reader or your card is having issues. If possible, try using a different card in the reader to see if it shows write-protected, as well...or stick the card in a different reader to check if it still shows as write-protected.

So I tried with another SD card and it worked fine until I formatted the emunand with gateways menu. Then it stopped being recognized in my reader.
Is there a way I can get files on to the sd card from the 3ds browser because the emunand format deleted the homebrew launcher.

Well, this goes beyond my expertise (not that I have any! :P ), but I think you have to have something in place already in order to do anything like that (such as one of the ftp clients).

Since the drive isn't physically write-protected, you may be able to fix it by deleting its partitions (When you format an emunand, it creates 2 partitions, one for the emunand and one in normal FAT32). A normal computer can't read the emunand partition, you can only see the FAT32 one.

Let's get some general information just to make sure everyone's looking at the same thing!

What console model are you using? (3DS, 2DS, n3DS, etc)
What type of SD card? (since it has a switch, I'm assuming it's a full-size)
What capacity is the SD card? (Emunand cuts off 1-2 gigs of space from the card total)
Does the SD card function properly in the 3DS?
Does the Emunand load properly?

it very well could be a botched partition. I'd recommend using something like EaseUS partition master to look at the card and see if you can delete the 2 partitions and reformat. Since this happened with 2 different cards, you might also consider making sure your GW software isn't broken (maybe download a fresh copy of whatever version you're wanting to use). Instead of using Gateway to make the Emunand, use something like the Emunand MultiTool to create the partitions, then set up all your boot stuff (RX, GW, etc) on the card.

Since we know it's not the card and it doesn't SEEM like it's your card reader, it could be Gateway's card formatter/Emunand creator that's doing something crazy to the card.

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that

least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
