Hacking SD Card Formatting HELP!

The Wii can read the SD Card perfectly, the HBC apps work, the game saves work, and the brawl textures work.. However, when I put it my laptop (Vista), it says it needs to format.

So I caved in and tried to format but Vista tells me "Windows is unable to format drive".

I don't want to lose my private folder because it has game saves that are only on there.

So my question is why can the Wii read it, but Vista doesn't and also how can I recover the private folder if I do reformat it?

Maybe you can try SD formatting tools
like http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/

Make a backup of the SD card first !!!

Thanks I reformatted it, but now whenever I take out the SD card and put it in the PC again, it asks to reformat again

You can recover formatted photos in your SD card using some photo recovery software. Just google photo recovery software, you will have a lot.

how was it originally formatted? what size is it?

you may be able to do

chkdsk J: /F /R /X

where J: is the sd card. but with windows wanting to format it, it may not work.

Sounds more like your laptop card reader is returning bad data.

Sounds like your just pulling it out of the computer. Eject or safely remove.

If you are doing this then imo it's the reader.
