So, SCEA finally decides to get up and forms a new group called Third-Party Production. Their task is to bring over new IPs, ports and localizations. So get ready for more Vita ports! (in a good way)
The new team is headed by Gio Corsi, who says the group’s formation “means you’ll see even more great games on PlayStation platforms, including new IPs, ports, and localized products.”
He continued, “In addition, our partners who are currently in production will have us as a resource to strengthen their development process, ensuring quality and consistency on all third-party projects.”
Their first task is the Borderlands 2 port for Vita so hopefully they'll give the port justice. Fans can also go to their Twitter page and request what games they would like to see ported or localized on a Playstation product.

I wonder where the criteria lies for what constitutes a worthy port? Borderlands seems like a good idea, from a popularity standpoint, but would it still sell well on the Vita, a handheld console? What about the risk of investing in Japan-only titles?

I have nothing against ports as long as they're ports of good games - the PS1/PS2/PS3 libraries are huge enough to pick and choose from and there's always this one game that "you haven't played yet" out there. As far as remakes are concerned, I hope they'll be worthy of the "remake" title, meaning that they will be revamped not only from the graphics stand point but also in terms of gameplay mechanics and content.
