Hacking saving problem in pokemon diamon/pearl?

About a week ago, I put Pokemon diamond on my R4. I just recently started a new game cuz I wanted a new starter pokemon. Anyways, when I tried to save the new game, it wouldn't save, and said that there was a save file. It said to consult the booklet, or press up+B+select on the title screen to delete the old one. I tried to do that and it didn't work. Anyone having problems like this.
