Can savedatafiller work with card1 games? If not why not?

It can work but not with Gateway right now becuase Card1 save data is only loaded when the game is running.
Card2 saves are loaded when you select them in the rom list.

No, not on a gateway console anyway, to play retail carts, you'd have to use classic mode which savedatafiler isn't compatible with yet.

You can use it to access retail carts from the 4.5 cfw.
