I’ve been playing a legit copy of BOTW on a Wii U. The console has been acting up, and I have a Switch now, so I wanted to migrate the save over. Kind of like a Save Game version of money laundering. So far I’ve:

  • Got CFW running on the Wii U
  • Backed up my save using Savemii
  • Converted the Wii U save to a Switch save using the converter.
Now, I have two switches: one hackable and one patched. I’d like to somehow get the save to my patched and stock unit. Everything is on 7.0.1 and neither console is banned (or even been hacked yet).

I’ll use Checkpoint to restore the save to the hackable Switch. From that point I’m not sure if it makes more sense to try to upload a Cloud Save on the hacked Switch and risk that console being banned, or to do a local save transfer which I think requires only the stock Switch to go online?

It seems like maybe there could be some options since th consoles are currently fresh and stock.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Well, I decided to risk it.

  • Ran BoTW and made a new save point
  • Turned on airplane mode
  • Booted hackable Switch into Atmosphere
  • Ran checkpoint and backed up that new save
  • Powered off Switch, and copied converted Wii U save over the Checkpoint save on the flash card.
  • Booted back into Atmosphere/Checkpoint and restored the converted flash.
  • Booted Switch back into OFW
  • Launched BOTW to verify the save worked (it did!!)
  • Turned off airplane mode and force a save upload to the cloud
  • Turned airplane mode back on.

On the stock Switch:
  • Forced a save download from the cloud
  • Launched BoTW and started playing where I left off on my Wii U
Fingers crossed one or both of these consoles don’t get banned eventually. The stock one I’ll continue to use online, but the hacked Switch will probably never connect again.

I think a local save transfer would have been safer comparatively but I think your chances a ban for just using Checkpoint are pretty low. Most Checkpoint-based bans revolved around games that had an online component such as Splatoon 2 or Smash Bros. Ultimate.

I’m sure you’re right. I went back and forth on which method to use. I didn’t really want to have to use a different user just for that one save/game, so I decided to risk it just this once. We’ll see what happens.

I don’t really have interest in online play anyway, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but I might like to buy eShop titles/DLC on the stock one, so here’s hoping to avoid a ban.

This should have been something Nintendo just supported natively anyway, but...

If either ends up banned I’ll check back in here so others know. Sounds like they happen in bulk, though, so it might take awhile to find out.

They went all in on streaming, should have been more of a hybrid approach

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.

I live maybe 3 minutes from a Dairy Queen, so I would just go there for ice cream anything anyways. I usually get the Oreo Blizzard, or a Peanut Buster Parfait.
