Hacking Save file transfer from a bricked 3ds

Is there anyway to rescue save files from a bricked 3ds that got dunked in the sea while on?

It has cfw but I don't think my friend ever opened jksm Installed on it. The new 3ds also has cfw on it but it's basically fresh with only fbi and jksm...

I was considering just moving the entire contents of his new (8gb) card to the old (64gb) card that survived the seas. That's how upgrading the cards work right? Just wipe away the old files and transfer the 8gb contents to a bigger card.

You can't use the SD card from one system on another, the data in encrypted per console. That's why JKSM exists, to decrypt the data and be able to move it to another console. Unless your friend dumped console specific data from it before it died he is out of luck. @ThoD knows about what he would have needed to dump.
