I've got an old HDD laying around and I plan to use it to run games on my PS2. After researching a little I figured running PS1 games from it it's a better option than PS2 games due to the USB ports on it being 1.1.

Can you guys give me recommendations of best/easiest methods to run PS1 games?

My PS2 is a SCPH-90006 slim model, hard-modded (Matrix Infinity).

As far as I am aware, popstarter is the best way at the moment to run ps1 from usb. The games have to be converted and you need a way to launch a .elf file.

There's a guide that pretty much covers it all here http://ps2home.freeforums.net/thread/162/popstarter-13-wip-guide. Compatiblity isn't perfect as it's emulation in ps2 mode (ps1 mode doesn't have access to the usb ports), but it's the best there is at the moment.

For launching the .elfs, you have a chip, so just set unlaunch.elf to be your dev1 launch, then you can use that to launch other .elf files.
