It's good to see that the series has finally broken free from its Ezio character (Great character, but did we really need three games starring him?). Then again, this is Ubisoft; I wouldn't put it past them to find some way to squeeze Ezio in there somewhere.

I passed up Revelations (Fatigued of the series a bit, and there was so many other games out there), but this has got my interest piqued again. I can't wait to see more.

Seems kinda awkward for an assassin with hidden blades running around assassinating people during the American Revolution. But hey, this could be fresh and interesting. I look forward to it

What else would he use? The point of the hidden blades were that they were silent and hidden. A big part of the franchise is assassinating someone in the middle of a large crowd then walking away without any issues. I doubt hitting them with a tomahawk or firing literally a shot that'd be heard around the world would be very "assassin-like".

I'm really interested though. I thought they would've done modern day following Desmond himself (although he's Bland McBlanderson) but that'd just lead to a lot of problems with the gameplay. This really opens up some opportunities for changes in gameplay while allowing an actually good character to take the stage (provided they write this character as good as Ezio and not as bad as Altair).

Not saying that this won't be set in the American war of disobedience, but has anyone noticed that the flag shown isn't an american flag? Anyone care to speculate on the significance of that?

Edit: Looks from that flag that we've got the date slightly wrong!

Well the current US flag has 50 stars, the older one did not. Mind you we only added a star for each state and the US was not initially 50 states.

Also, what is this "American War of Disobedience" you talk about?

In all honesty, Desmond is a pretty lousy character. I thought I'd like to see him in his own game, but then I realized he has actually no character. He's just bland and his only purpose is to provide a series with a consistent plot line but that isn't tied down to a specific character, place, or time. He has no real interesting back story or anything. I'd much rather see how a new character develops, especially with such an intriguing time period.

Well, according to my sources that particular flag came about at least a year after the fracas, so AC:3 can't be set during the war, surely?

I'm British - I'm sure you can work that one out :-)

A year or two after it started, sure. That flag represented the 13 colonies, yada yada, and it surely can be during the war since that didn't end until the early 1780's.

Just to put my own input in... I'm excited about this game. I was not expecting a setting like this and I'm glad my previous CoD jokes with this setting did not come true instead :3

EDIT: Just so I don't sound like a tool, I'll actually look it up. I haven't read anything about this time period since middle school .__.

The flag was adopted in 1777. My subtitle didn't indicate the year of the game, it was just a lame joke ;)

I think it would have been very interesting indeed if the story for AC:3 had been set slightly after the war - with possibilities for intrigue and the politics of keeping a fledgling nation independent, rather than just going for shenanigans related to the war itself, which is a bit of a cop-out. Ah well, eh?
