Homebrew ROM file format question ( R4I GOLD 3DS PLUS)

I'm expecting my R4I GOLD 3DS PLUS to arrive soon, so I'm downloading ROMs in advance already. However, I stumbled across the different file formats:

.3ds
.3dsx
.cia

Which one do I need? Most ROMs I already got now are .3ds format. Will I be able to use them on a flashcard like the R4I Gold 3ds plus?

The .3ds games will have to be converted to .cia to use them with CFW. Can be done with a PC but takes a while if you have a lot of games.
It's much easier to get your games with FreeShop on the 3DS itself once you have CFW installed. Just leave it downloading overnight.
.3dsx is only used for homebrew.
