Introducing Riivolution, the first loader to implement on-the-fly file replacement!
Developed by AerialX and several others, Riivolution was first featured in the Fatal Frame 4 patch (recently released), and has been seen even earlier. Check out this video from way back when, featuring Guitar Hero III songs being loaded off of an SD Card:
Riivolution was the basis for this.
How does Riivolution work?
I'll now explain this in a very, very short tutorial- note that it won't necessarily work until AerialX releases the loader.
- First, the .dol will check to see if you have IOS 242 installed. If you don't, it will automatically grab the required files from the internet and install them. Once you've installed the IOS, you will be asked to reboot the program.
Delicious!
-Next, the loader will read the ID of the disc that you have in your tray. My disc is, of course, Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1 (for testing purposes).
-One very real note: in order to use this loader you MUST have the original disc (or a modchip, I presume). 242 doesn't have backup loading capabilities.
-After the loader has determined the ID of the disc, it looks for an XML with that ID. For example, the ID of Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1 is RREE. Here is a snapshot of my custom-made XML:
Here's some notes.
- root="/RBTPV1"
-This is the root folder on your SD Card. Every file you want replaced will go in here, in a sub-folder or on its own. I decided on its own as I'm only replacing the main.hdr and main_0.ark files. Riivolution will automatically find and replace all files with the same name for you.
- id game/region type
- Easily identifiable to anyone familiar with USB Loader or WiiScrubber in general. Self-explanatory to everyone else.
- option name="Song Replacer"
- The name of the patching option.
-
- Tells the loader that all files are located in the root folder.
After this, just execute and go. It's that simple!
Current uses:
- Rock Band track replacer (see Mrkinator's original tutorial)
- Fatal Frame 4 English patch (features the loader in action)
- Any game mod, really. Think of it as "WiiScrubber on the go". Reggie, anyone?
Anyways,
AerialX said:It's designed so that people can do full game mods and release them in a way that you just need to extract it to an SD card![]()
Quesstionaire
1) Why no backup support?
It complicates things, at its most basic level.
2) Can I have multiple XMLs for one specific game?
As a matter of fact, you can.
AerialXThis is how you can have 10+ custom setlists for GH3.
3) My custom files aren't loading!
Make sure your XML directories are right.
...mine weren't.
Haha.
VIVA LA RIIVOLUTION!
