I just got myself hold of a used wii (my first wii) and its version is 4.3u wan (as in waninkoko version) I've tried to homebrew it through letterbombing and hackmii but it just says I have no exploitable isos. I've tried installing them using other programs through letterbombing but even after reinstalling isos hackmii homebrew installer displays the same error. Does anyone know how to get it back to regular 4.3u so I can homebrew it normally?

It really says "4.3U wan" in Wii Settings? Can we see a screenshot?

Are u able to also share a syscheck? Just load the app via an exploit if u don't have the hbc, it sounds like you're familiar with that part, lol
https://gbatemp.net/threads/posting-a-system-check.300279/

If u have patched IOSs, u should be able to just install a clean IOS58 and the hbc (in wad form) using a wad manager, if u don't have ahbprot disabled u may need to reload to a dif ios or cios that's patched and not stubbed before installing wads

But let's see a syscheck first regardless :)

at work rn so sorry for the limited info!
yes, in the wii settings it says "4.3u wan".
I have tried running syscheck through letterbombing but it displayed some error and didn't open the program, I'll try it again and post here when I'm back home.
i tried reinstalling some ios but that didn't solve the hackmii not installing.
i have not tried installing homebrew channel through wad though, will try that when I'm home!

I don't know if this helps but I tried pimp my wii for a diagnosis and I got this.

No it does not help, do a syscheck, and pimp my wii doesn't get updates for quite some time now...

We really need syscheck

But you might want to:
  1. Restore region settings to factory settings.
  2. Update your WII to Nintendo's latest original firmware, If this fails:
    1. Install every IOS 136 through IOS 236 do note that WIIu uses different IOS here (you'll need vWII version in that case).
    2. Install every IOS from 1 till 99 to latest version using IOS236.
    3. Install BC latest version using IOS236.
    4. Install MIOS latest version using IOS236.
    5. Install System Menu latest version (matching factory region) using IOS236.
    6. Now use https://please.hackmii.com/ with the mac adress of this wii.
    7. install all CIOSes you like see: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Wii_cIOS_base_Compatibility_List
  3. That should fix any wii, but you could sure use https://gbatemp.net/threads/emulate-a-wii-nand-to-keep-your-wii-clean.291814/
  4. And check: https://github.com/wiidev/usbloadergx

I tried opening syscheck but this error displays, tried both from a direct letterbomb and opening the app through WiiModLite
JaapDaniels, I'll try your guide and hop back here!

Oops, the syscheck error was left behind when posting, my apologies!

Forgot to mention, it apparently has a modchip for burnt CDs.

Waninkoko used to release patched system menus back in the day as I recall and had released the first WAD installer that I remember.

That's a bit embarassing... I got a homebrew channel wad from internet archive and It installed and seems to be running alright, I'm so sorry everyone. Although I'm still curious as to why I couldn't open hackmii (also, if anyone has a wad install for bootmii that would be really great). I can now launch syscheck through homebrew channel but I can't save a syscheck, I think there's still something weird on my wii...

My guess is that perhaps you have a patched IOS58 (and probably more using DARKCORP or similar) and that's causing the Hackmii installer to fail. What may correct that would be using ModMii to download an unpatched WAD of IOS58 and installing it with something like YAWMME and then running the Hackmii Installer from the Homebrew Channel. Not 100% sure, but it's worth a shot.

I have installed other versions of IOS58 LOTS of time, acquired both through ModMii and through other sources, but no changes on the HackMii error. No clue what is going on with this wii.

I tried installing ISO 4 to see if it would help with the syscheck thing and now it just displays error -24 whenever I try to save a syscheck. Weird. Also just installed USBLoader GX and it works but I tried to play Animal Crossing City Folk, and whenever I open it it takes me back to the home screen.

Also do NOT use pimp my wii. It sucks, is closed source, and it bricked a fuck ton of Wiis.

yeah that's fucked. I think since you got this Wii second hand, it's worth a revirginize

If u can't install bootmii ios, it can still be accessed using Casper, modmii's Casper2Bootmii.bat in its support folder can assist with setting it up to be launched directly via an exploit (generally for those that want to make a nand backup before doing any mods)

But yes, now that u have hbc u share a syscheck

Well, I still can't download my syscheck... Not sure why, it wasn't displaying any error before, just saying it couldn't upload the syscheck (download). I then googled a bit about it and saw a post on reddit where someone suggested reinstalling IOS4, I did it and now i get error "-24" (attached), not sure what is up with that.

Good news! after some cIOS installing I got USB Loader GX games to work, so I guess my wii is good for now? but without a syscheck to make sure everything is in order I'm still worried about this Wii, so I'm gonna try and install bootmii to get a backup NAND so I can have some security. If I can't do it I think the better path to avoid any bigger problems would be to revirginize it, right? Thank you everyone for the help on this thread.

Use Casper2bootmii, lets get your Wii revirginized. If you have discord, add me there "aep"

I'm so, so sorry for the late response, work has been eating my mind lately and I have had no time to do anything, didn't even play much... I'm trying to friend you on discord but it says you are not accepting friends request, if you could add me I go by bu77owski there.

Friended you

For future reference, after virginizing this Wii and the same error being displayed on hackmii, we've come to the conclusion that it's defective. Thank you everyone.
