Does the latest stable release include m4xw's version of ppsspp? I run it, and it runs a lot more glitchy than his latest public beta:

Anyone having the opposite kind of results or insights into the situation? Maybe I am misinformed.

Afaik the nightly release is the latest ppsspp with all of m4xw's changes.
He basically hold off to adding them into the buildbot until he felt both Mupen Next and PPSSPP were stable enough to be added into the buildbot.

So, I have managed to successfully launch N64 games for the first time, and I have to say, it doesn't seem like it's really running all that great. I tried everything while docked, and Super Mario 64 was stuttering like crazy, and it seems like there's this weird problem where, after loading one game, if you try to load another one, it will fail to load (thankfully not crashing the Switch) until you restart the entire emulator.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Do I have to put my Switch on the line and try OC'ing it to get these games to run with base settings!? Not that I'm against it per se, but I think I wouldn't mind getting better cooling for this Switch in order to ensure it doesn't bite the dust if that's the case!

Yeah I don't think anyone has had much luck overall with N64 without overclocking AFAIK.

You're doing something wrong if SM64 is stuttering like crazy. Are you using the mupen64plus-NEXT core? Also what are your core settings?

@m4xw Did you by any chance had a try on having the SEGA Saturn core profit from everything that had brought N64, PSP and PSX on a whole new level now? (and if not, could you consider looking into it, of course with no rush) :)
Saturn uses a different CPU architecture (Hitachi RISC-based) than the others, so wouldn't be able to re-use the dynarecs from them. It's interesting that we just got the Reicast alpha release (standalone, not yet in Retroarch) for Switch, as that has aarch64 dynarec for the Dreamcast's SH-4 processor, and according to that wiki the whole family of CPUs uses an "upward compatible" instruction set, so maybe that dynarec could be adapted for the Saturn's SH-2 - should hopefully be much less work than making one from scratch.

Speaking of SEGA Saturn:

This is from main Sanshiro's dev himself :)

I was using the MUPEN64Plus-NEXT core. Also, it was more stuttering like crazy when there was a lot on screen. It also essentially had to load every screen I went to. Like, that's how long it took for the title screen and the save menu screen to come up when it came time for the game to switch screens.

I see. I was honestly giving this a shot for curiousity's sake. I personally don't have much nostalgia for the N64 (I can hear the mobs in the background), but I wanted to get an idea of what the Switch could handle without OC'ing going forward.

That has me wondering, without resorting to replacing the thermal solution in the Switch, how far is generally safe for the Switch to go? Like, does anyone have numbers for what's safe for a Switch without, say, going full liquid metal and/or replacing it with some fresh Arctic Silver that's more sufficient than whatever Nintendo deemed to be "OK enough"? I know there was a lot of back and forth about it when OC'ing was introduced months ago, but I'm kind of looking for a CliffNotes version that goes beyond "OC'ing dangerous, not OC'ing "safe.""

Must be something in your settings then. OC isn't necessary for a lot of N64 games and some are even full speed with underclock. There shouldn't be any issues with SM64 at all.

Still can't get Killer Instinct MAME to work. I'm using MAME 2003 Plus as recommended, but also tried regular MAME 2003. I tried both with the chd in the same folder as the zip and with the chd in folder named kinst, both ways I get "The software was closed because an error occured."

An underrated opinion: While Bluesky as a platform is better than Twitter, Bluesky's userbase won't be better than Twitter as people are saying because everyone from the non-bootleg site are moving to the bootleg one expecting for themselves to change with their attitude, but that never works like that.
  • DragonMals @ DragonMals:
I will say though: Bluesky as a micro-blogging site? Needs a bit more oomph and I would officially like it better than Twiter. Can't even post gifs on that site, like what the fuck?
