Hacking Retroarch Mario allstars not saving

Been playing Mario for a bit saved it but it's not saving, I've tried all the cores and still no joy I can use the save state option but hav accentally deleted my save file just not sure why I cant save normally

If you want to use in-game saves, you need to use the "Quit Retroarch" option in the Retroarch menu. That writes the official save to a file, whereas just clearing the live area page won't.

Saving to SRAM might also be disabled, so check that as well.
