Gaming RetroAchievements on a real NES

Just found this YouTube video of a small team that created an adapter for the NES that monitors the gameplay on real hardware to trigger achievements.



I think this has potential to be adopted by streamers and speedrunners to unlock a new era of tracking records and other challenges. Just like hardware based segment splitters, input display and acquired items overlays or even flashcarts with USB or networking support.

The NES (or rather, Famicom) cartridge bus has a direct connection to the CPU, so these kinds of things are possible to do.
