ROM Hack Resources to create an "empty update" so game doesn't requst update on launch?

I used a fantranslation on a game and now it's incompatible with any update, but it still prompts to download it each boot-up.

My initial thought was that since you can spoof modded-update numbers, wouldn't it be possible to just create an update that doesn't change anything but the version number?

I'd like to ask for reading resources so I can learn more about each step and attempt to do it myself. Although maybe there's an easier method all together or maybe it's just flatout impossible, if anyone knows of either, their input would also be appreciated
