If I have a 3DS on firmware 9.4, and I do factory settings, does the firmware go back down?
No, it does not.
Why not? Can you explain more?
it just doesn't, it will wipe the user files, like save data, mii data, etc etc, but not undo the system updates to the 3ds.
Because Nintendo don't want you to go back to older firmware.
Where could I get a older firmware 3DS?
How about Gamestop?
No, Ebay is your best bet. Gamestop will not let you look at the firmware before you buy it. Plus, majority of the consoles will have been updated.
Gamestop doesn't let you look at something before you buy it? WTF???
Pawn shops are good too.
Old 3DS probably, new 3DS most likely not.
So I can't do anything with 9.4?
Sky3ds but it's a piece of junk in my opinion
You need 9.2 or under to run custom firmware, homebrew, unsigned cias, and pretty much everything else
I was looking to hack NSMB2. Does that count?
No, Sky3DS only works with retail dumps. As if you had the original cartridge. At most you can use Region Free. If you're on 9.4 you can use the browser exploit to use cheats and some other minor stuff. You cannot do anything else at the moment.
So, I gotta say this. Formatting your 9.4 3DS and expecting the original firmware is like formatting your Windows 8 computer and expecting XP.
When I use the browser exploit it shows a fuzzy screen. That's all...
Yes, you need to be 9.2 or under to play edited games.
To date of this thread, for all public exploits you require 9.2 or below to use them.
You can run ram hax (i.e. cheats) and VC injection (nes/GB warez) with 9.4.
Not much else though.
