I wouldn't really call that "cheating" either. The mushrooms are kinda tied to free DLC that gives access to a choice of 1 (outa 2) palico armors that are not the best in-game. Whatever method he used to give him the abiltiy to have both sets instead of only one, would be better summed up by saying he... manipulated?

Since the DLC to get the super mushroom is not released yet, when I said 'cheating', I meant he must have used an exploit to duplicate the items, or hacked the save.
The other solution was to use 2 different Nintendo 3DS, with separate NNID. A nice trick that could also be emulated with loading multiple emunands on your 3DS.

Is it at all possible to take someones G Rank save, edit hunter name but have it still work with my own dump of my physical copy of the game?

This is my 3rd (THIRD) time playing through MH4 and im a little burnt out having to go through HR AGAIN.

I just want to get to G1 where I left off in 4G!!

Yes of course.
You have a dump of a physical copy. I will assume it's either .3DS or .3DZ
Since you made your own dump, you have a private header, so you cannot simply use the .sav from someone else. You have to export/import with SaveDataFiler.
Export your MH4U save, in the new folder, replace user1/2/3 with a different one, change the hunter's name, them import back.

You could also import your own save from MH4 or MH4G.

make sure that you have the correct SavaDataFiler version. 5.0.0 or above
i had the same issue because of the wrong version

This is insane I remember getting banned in tri for having some equipment that wasn't my hr but you can just straight edit your hr? How is that not an immediate ban?

iirc Tri is the only recent main series MH game that had such a strict banning system. Haven't heard of any bans in 3U, 4 and 4G.

Well I suppose the Wii was easy enough to cheat on but no bans on the PSP side? Well I guess those didn't have online unless you had ad hoc party which is a whole other mess. Woot then I may learn some skills and try to make a GUI I hate my palico name and am lazy. Unless someone already tried I would rather use theirs XD
