Hardware Replace Switch AC Adapter cable

Hi,
i got an switch ac adapter with the usbc plug cut off.(original plug wasn't included)
Should it be possible to solder another cut usb c cable with plug onto it?
I've heard Nintendo isn't using the usb standard here and i don't want to fry my switch when I try this charger.

Would be nice if someone has done this before and can give me some advice.

Don't trust people in internet who says that not original charger will fry your switch, I'm using Aukey 65W PD charger with not original dock for about year and everything is ok.

Good to know but your Aukey charger costs almost twice then the original charger
Couldn't find much about the Nintendo charger and his usb c wires.

Year ago it was on promo (21€) Aukey PA-Y12, now it's 50€. Anyway you cant find cheaper and proven switch charger on https://switchchargers.com/

You should be completely fine wiring another end to this cable, nothing is special about the switch the voltage in is on the same pins and data is carried on the same pins. I do a lot of work on Macbooks, which nowadays use 20v USB-C. Turns out their PSUs can negotiate 9v too for iPads and iPhones, which is enough to let the switch do it's thing and I use them all the time since I only have one switch charger. If you want my suggestion I would harvest from a similar cable that was designed to handle over 5V but I really don't think it will matter.

I'd say go for it, just replace to new USB C plug, and if you worried and want to check it first before plugging into switch, get a cheap USB C device, or adapter, to plug into first., example: USB C to USB micro adapter, n try charging old phone, or a battery pack, etc

I'll post a pic of one on 9V if I can, off til Friday. Maybe I'm just imagining the voltage from doing too many iPhones, but I know they will nego with Macbook blocks no issues not 5v. Those blocks are supposed to only do 5v, 9v, 20v. I have no idea of the technical specs of M92, just what my meter reads out when connected inline between PSU and Switch.

No. But the cable you have there is an USB-OTG cable, it has extra hardware in it that tells one side to act as USB host, due to that it might not be suitable for what you want to do, you should find a plain cable (either an extension cable or a normal charging cable) to use.

Hm so the charging cable for my samsung s10e should have the right wires inside?
sry I'm an electrical noob but with the power metre i got the following specs:
5V 1,5A
15V 2,6A

Best if you use a cable that has only the power wires, otherwise you will have a lot of unused cut off wires and an unnecessarily thick cable, seems a bit of a waste of a perfectly good cable. The cable for your phone probably has data wires.

Moral of the story: good design is good design don't buy cheap stuff and your switch is going to be fine. Anyone who finds this good luck!

This is 100% true the switch actually complains about AC input if it's asked to put display port out under 15v.

hey guys thx for the information so far. i'll try to find a cheap usbc cable now and let you know if it worked.
but i think all usbc cables on amazon are with data wires... the best solution would be another broken switch ac adapter.

or just buy official nintendo usb-c cable that is with pro controller

Update: After some months of waiting i got a cheap usbc charging cable from china.




Sadly the wire colors are very random:
Thick Red
Thick Black
White
Blue
and a yellowish one

Is there any way to test how the colors are assigned without disassembling the whole usbc plug?

Use your switch mb, the new cable and a multimeter .
The colors in the picture coresponds to color on official cable , 2 red vcc, 2 gnd and one white cc witch will corespond to cc1 or cc2 depending how the plug is connected.
