My cat damaged my top DS lite screen, now it's got a slightly-fuzzy-negative image, Nintendo wants $75+($10 shipping) to fix it, and I've thought about repairing it myself but I don't have any way to know if it's the TFT LCD screen that needs replacing or the connecting wire..or what...It could easily start adding up to $50 in parts... Needless to say I'm really frustrated, thinking I may just get a really cheap original DS at this point.

[Technically I could be able to get a discount for being within the 1 year period -$15, but only if I can get them to accept the serial number off of my box, it wore off the ds lite]

There's no cracking of the LCD, It looks just fine off. Any know what it needs?

Anywhere local to the USA?

Also is it interchangeable between the DSLite and the Original DS phat? ..[The only one I found on DX doesn't seem to distinguish] (Sorry for the cross-post...the other thread's repair advice was kind of an afterthought..I just wanted a list of games that'd be playable in the meantime (or if I just chose to buy a replacement, that would work)

There are tons of sites located in the USA for screens. The prices won't be the same as DealExtreme of course, but since you're looking for local, I would just look at this thread:

It's for flashcarts, but the websites they mention might sell DS Parts. I mean, there's always eBay, and Amazon, etc.

And no, the DS Phats top screen won't work in the DS Lites. AFAIK. Someone is allowed to correct me if I'm wrong.

And one game I know of that you can just use the bottom screen is AC:WW. I'm sure there's more. Sorry I can't be a help for that.

The DS and Lite do require different screens. Additionally, soldering is required to replace the Lite's screen, as it's connected to the speakers.

If you're within the one-year period, though, shouldn't it be FREE replacement? And the serial # on your box should work, as it ought to be the same as the one on your Lite.

They claim it's not covered due to impact damage..(they say nothing else suggests the kind of problem I'm having). The only reason I'm concerned about them not taking the serial is because the one on the back of the DS wore off, there's no way for them to distinguish the DSL I send in from any other right?
