.... Calling enthusiasts, or people who simply are interested in it to play around "fanboys" is ridiculous, and offensive. "fanboy" is not a word with a positive connotation.
Didn't wanted to insult anyone im just saying that all the hype isn't necessary because in the end its not of a real use.
I called those defending this and saying that this is of a real use fanboys / fangirls / fansissy / fan . $gender

It would be incredibly useful if it was finished. Your 3DS would be a portable raspberry pi.

It wouldn't, the 3DS has next to no expansion options. You can't connect anything to it.

"The thing is that its useless and the one who are excited are linux fanboys who don't even use this :/"

No. The majority of people interested in this are interested in seeing what *can be done*. This isn't meant as a replacement of any kind for the 3DS' OS. Those interested in this are not "fanboys".

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Perhaps they'd prefer that someone ported Windows Phone to 3DS. Then you could play all Xbox® games using Xbox on Windows Phone!

/s
no Windows Mobile 5 pls

You could control something over wifi/ssh. I was really referring to the software it could run though.

Even then, there are ssh clients for phones, and the keyboard for Linux 3DS is,er, not the greatest.

And yeah, I feel your sentiment. It would be cool to cross-compile source on the 3DS, or just toy around with it more. OP put a lot of work into this just to get it running, and it really is more of a proof of concept than anything else.

Boot up debian on the bitch. Everything you could want is in the repos. Firefox, VBA, PICO-8, etc.

So from what I gather, this is pretty much just a poc for fun? Kinda like getting windows 3.1 running on 3ds.

Basically, I mean, what would you do with Linux on the 3DS other than say "I can do it"?
Idk. That's why i asked. I wouldn't want to run android on 3ds unless i could actually run apks. That's basically what i was asking: can you actually run useful applications with it? If no, then im not interested. Only reason i would want dosbox running is to play dos games on the 3ds. Just having another os running as poc is of no interest to me. Although i know others would be excited about it.

I'm noob af when it comes to linux. I know it's a freely distributed os for pc. Honest question: what can you do with this? Not sure what the benefit would be running a pc os on the 3ds other than a poc. There's gotta be something I'm missing since quite a few ppl are excited about it. I'd know what i would do if there was a port of android for 3ds, which is run android apps. So, is this a similar idea? Like what apps can u run?
what I mean is, the linux port is r/o to the sdcard, instead of using the entire sdcard, have the user preferences and addition packages stored in a .img or.iso ( or something similar) therefore adding more ability to port/add programs and files to the os without a full recompile. this would also allow for better caching and (maybe) the use of a basic (but custom) pkg manager that points to a repo on github for addons, that then get put in a .img file to store extra data. Also, to answer your question, this is a poc (as far as I am concerned), but in the future, this may actually end up being a start for a full blown linux/desktop os on a 3ds, it may be slow, but imagine baing able to use github or wget, ssh, rdesktop... etc I am pretty sure they already have arm9 or 11 counterparts...
have you tried debian or ubuntu, If not you should make a bootable usb for lubuntu, you may like it...

This would at least allow (probably) easier and faster development... along with the ability to do updates and download drivers temporarily to add to the zimage.

@xerpi, In the future, next update, could you maybe add the ability to update from linux (su linuxloader update) and also, as faras storing files on sdcard, make a chroot type of thing at /linux/Storage/(linux directory files including a home folder (or only a home folder))

Updating from 3DS Linux (by itself) is currently impossible - we don't have access to the WiFi chip. It may be possible, however, to manually copy the update files to the SD card and proceed to update from there - but why not just copy the updated Linux IMG?
Using chroot to move to use a directory on the SD card may be possible, but I'm probably not the most qualified person to answer that question.

EDIT: Thanks, GBATemp, for not telling me that there was an entire page of posts after the one I just replied to.
Really, it means a lot.

i can't enter password...

The password is invisible for security reasons. Unlike Windows or macOS, you won't be able to see the password as you're typing it.

lol, Ok.(I have yet to get it to even boot?) Do we know weather it is a kernal issue or drivers?

and does any1 know what the directory tree should look like after puttingthe files on an sdcard

~Correction, it's not "kernal". It's kernel.
ok... i always misspell that... twist/irony, I am actually kinda running lubuntu right now right beside my linux desktop in my basement...

besides the fact, I really look forwed to eventually having a 3rd linux device that goes in my pocket.

Does this have the Bourne Again Shell implemented?
? judging by your "quote", you are a linux user, but also, get more support, and all the required packages are already in repos. nut, get linux on a device, and the possabilities are basically endless, just work w/ wat u got... gtg

What does any of that have to do with whether this project has the Bourne Again Shell implemented or not? This project has no access to any repositories because of the lack of a driver for the 3DS' WiFi card.
