just like some people don't buy eggs from caged hens because it's not so ethical for the chickens, i won't be surprised if some people uninstall freeshop.

it's perfectly understandable, we are not just black and white, we have a conscience, and some people won't feel right knowing they are using a program developed by a person who made indecent images of children more accessible.
yes it might not be 100% logical/practical, but we're not robots.

if he really did that stuff (and i guess so, he was convicted, fitting name 'cruel'), i hope the 20 years is hell for the guy.

That took a dive.
He did mention he had legal issues besides the DMCA, I guess that was it. That's just all kinds of crazy.

He also mentioned someone else is going to be the lead dev for freeShop and he was going to just advise.

I guess someone else is maintaining the cache now. It seems to get regular updates.
