Sorry for sounding like a n00b, but do we rename the firmware file to firmware.bin or to firmware*insert system version*.bin? I'm trying to use CakesFW to play Fire Emblem IF Special Edition

I can't get FBI to work from HBL when using Cakes, but if I use miniPasta instead, FBI works fine within HBL. I assume miniPasta does something slightly different? Is there anyway to add this functionality to Cakes?
(The source for miniPasta is here if that helps: https://gbatemp.net/threads/need-hax-2-x-pasta-loader.400752/page-2#post-5822330)
I doubt miniPasta does much differently. They do, however, not replace the firmware with firmware.bin. Either try to use a firmware.bin that's the same version as your emuNAND, or just do the h&s injection thing.

Yeah, I already installed it with the H&S injection, I was just curious really. Also, out of curiosity, how do I know what version a firmware.bin is? I'm using the N3DS "0000001B" one linked in the main post, with 10.3U EmuNAND. I assume those would match?

Another thing, in CakesFW, what do I need to select to allow it to let me run Fire Emblem if? I selected Boot CFW and I got a purple screen with a bunch of colored lines:(

Yep, those match. In that case, I don't know exactly why it happens. Maybe due to not being able to get enough privileges on *hax (which is why I suggested getting the right firmware.bin, as elevating privileges depends on that). To prove this theory, you could try on 9.0/9.2 emuNAND, with the corresponding 9.0 firmware.bin (see OP on how to get the right firm, in the feature list, there's a link).

Boot CFW should work, try again. But the patches you select depend on what you want, if you want emuNAND, you enable emuNAND, if you want signature patches, you enable signature patches, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, look up some terminology/setup guides around this forum.

It worked Thanks so much!

Under configuration, what does the option "Force saving patched firmware" do?

Works perfectly with autoboot on my 10.3 emunand/9.2 sysnand n3DS. Keep up the great work!

I can confirm the autoboot fix on n3ds in 108 nightly as working. I'm still puzzled how n3ds 10.3 emunand launches my ds mode flashcart and has kernel suport but my 2ds won't do any of those (also a 10.3 emunand).
To my knowledge CakesFW has always been able to run DS carts, never had a problem myself. What have you been using that doesn't?

For debugging purposes
How unhelpful and incredibly vague, can you please elaborate further?

The current reboot patches cause anything that doesn't reboot into NATIVE_FIRM to not to be booted.
Then again, I've never been able to boot DS carts, even without reboot patches.

Debugging: Add force-saving of patched_firm.bin in options. The only reason this should be necessary to use is to debug patches without having to enable autoboot.
It's like people don't read the changelogs. There's not much more to be said about it. Cakes usually does everything possible to not to have to write that file, since it takes time. This option overrides that.

[QUOTE="Grab the new firmware.bin from the OP, grab the slot0x11key96.bin (goes in the root of the SD) from that iso site in the CakesFW thread[/QUOTE]
You might wanna change that asap, I don't know how the moderators haven't seen it yet. :O

Hmmm I used reiNAND early on, perhaps it was that

Oh, I read the changelog before I downloaded the 108 nightly. I just didn't understand what it meant, so I asked for it to be explained. You did, thank you.

Maybe you'll like to know cakes in n3ds is able to boot DS mode flashcards fine. Going out of the cart forces a reset, but themehax comes to the rescue and sends you back to emunand in no time.
