Backstory: I've always been fascinated by Flipnote Studio. I used to spend hours making short animations. I specifically remember being obsessed with that default "kicking the butt" animation. Recently, I wanted to see if I could get the DSi to talk to a modern backend over the internet, and this is the result.

AetherShell is a bridge that captures what you draw on your DSi and projects it into 3D space on your iPhone in real-time.
Youtube Demo:

Open Source & Contributions: The project is completely free and open source. I'm definitely open to contributors and fellow enthusiasts to tinker and add more to the (game?)

Download Link (.nds + Backend): https://github.com/das-bhaskar/AetherShell/releases/tag/v1.0.2
iOS companion App: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/aethershell/id6757910723

Update:

Just updated the main post with the video demo!

Also, just a heads up for everyone: the backend currently requires MacOS to run. I'm actively working on porting to be compatible with Windows and Linux. If there are any Python/Spring Boot devs here who want to help with the cross-platform testing, let me know!

Nice.

This might be a joke and serious at the same time. But us temp users are still on "Windows XP" or Linux.

Android?
Hi! I am currently working on Linux and Windows release. Its an open source project so i welcome all the help. Android is definitely on my radar as well since i have been asked before.

Very cool, nice development work :)

I never played with flipnote (so I don't know if this was an official feature or not) - but I think it would be very useful if you could see the previous picture / frame, faintly, so you can trace over it when drawing the new frame. An easy thing to add if you're interested.

Good luck with your projects and portfolio, stuff like this is much more interesting that simply making a web app in react :D
