For the most part, the program seems to be quite stable. It's just that Treeki wants to add more functionality to the program before a public release because as things are now it's sort of bare bones. Sure you can do object and sprite movement which is about all you need to do, but you have to figure out all the sprites and set them up correctly on your own, you are restricted by entrances currently, and you can't change the size and shape of the area views. There's a lot more that Treeki wants to look into before a release.

I joined because of this thread. Treeki, you should take the compliment!

I sincerely was expecting a level editor in this game when it was announced. I thought: "here is the PERFECT opportunity for Nintendo to FINALLY -- after two decades -- release an official Mario level editor a little more advanced than that in the original Mario Paint

While I still love the game, and think that it may be my favorite Mario game EVER (perhaps behind Yoshi's Island, or maybe even Galaxy as well), I can't help but feel it's a bit on the empty side, multiplayer notwithstanding. Surely, Nintendo, at some point, must bring Mario into the online LittleBigPlanet-style play-create-share community? It's perfect for Nintendo's new dogmatic approach to community play.

So why not this time? I don't want to say Nintendo dropped the ball, but... yeah. It is what it is.

Alas, Treeki, you are filling in a huge gap for a lot of longtime Mario fans such as myself.

Does anyone know if you can modify a characters movement? Like make one of them hover when jump is held or be able to jump super high. I think you can see where im going with this.

treeki, can i be one of your testers? i have a lot of great ideas and i think i could be of good service here. I could really see what this engine can do!

I believe that can be accomplished with Ocarina, although I'm not sure.

I don't mean to be rude (I'm not dissing this community or anything; just curious), but as a total n00b here:

Is there anywhere else where there's more of an active, vigorous discussion currently taking place? Or is this where the main discussions, etc., will be . . . only obviously the editor has not been released publicly yet so discussion is still nascent?

Well, my point is, wherever it may be, can I ask if there's anyway to discourage people from simply creating a bevy of mindless SMB1-1 remakes? LOL. Not that people doing what they want is necessarily a bad thing, but I just hope that, with a quality impending editor release such as this, that people don't flood the internet with absolutely abysmal fan made levels, obscuring the salience of the quality ones.

Like, I don't mean to be jumping ahead here, but are there established places set up that will handle fan made levels, and a rating system or something? I can see this becoming a HUGE thing, and I'd just hate for it to gradually get out of control and there to be no semblance of a "central hub" where quality-assured levels are found, and likewise encouraged, with idea sharing, etc.

Also, I have so many great ideas for levels -- for example, a level where you are forced to be small Mario to fit through a small gap, so that, when you then find Yoshi, you have to collect 5 well hidden fruits so that a power-up appears allowing you to progress as Super Mario (or another 5 even? to make a special suit appear?) -- but then again I guess everyone has what they consider to be great ideas =P

MANNNN there's so much in this game, and the potential of almost ALL of it was barely even tapped. World 9 is basically like the level designers went: "okay, NOW we can try some really interesting stuff" but then of course there's only 8 of those... so far.........

i know, we seriously need to form a good community here. I have been waiting for a 2d mario on console since world, and the fact that this awesome editor is being released, god damn ive been thinking about awesome ideas for mario levels for years, and im sure im not the only one. this is going to make the replay of this game shoot through space. ive been replaying older marios and my favorite levels in this one for inspiration on concepts and what not

This is the main discussion thread for it right now, since it's still a WIP editor. There's a private IRC channel for testers, but this thread is the biggest public discussion currently going on.

Sadly no; such is Mario ROM hacking

Plans for something like this are in the works (along with a discussion area and such), but we haven't made a final decision yet.

Not to sound, you know, rude, but...It's not original either...this was already used countless times in SMW romhacks...

Well at least the editor for this game finally enables ideas for stages where co-op is mandatory! Nintendo obviously didn't bother with those in order to make the whole game beatable in single and multi-mode.

Easy example: You have a very high wall made of blocks and another short end parallel to it. You need to wall jump in order to climb the wall, but the short end is still too high to reach... unless you jump from the head of a 2nd player. Once you make your way up, you can break the wall of blocks all the way down with a butt stomp.

Granted you can get Dolphin working at a playable speed, and have a legal ISO on it, it will probably work... you also will need a compatible Bluetooth adapter.

is there a way to run nsmb wii on the computer to test the levels before transfering them?

also can you edit the moving platforms that run on tracks?
