Hacking Red card needed for gateway emunand?

They don't let you boot into emuNAND without the red card because if you could, what's to stop you using it to install devemenu and then just giving your card to someone else to do the same?
If you didn't need the card to boot emuNAND, Gateway wouldn't sell any more units.

because you will be able to install dev menu in 4.X CFW then mode it back to regular emunand and update to play the CIA that needs 8.X without the need for gateway at all

    I don't have a wii u anymore to test it myself, but if homebrews are not visible on the wii u menu I think you can press L + R + minus to open the plugin menu, there should be an option called "homebrews on wii u menu" or something similar
