Good day, GBATemp!

So during the holidays I went ahead and gave myself the gift of a 256GB SD Card (which I still have yet to check thoroughly to verify it's not fake ). But once that is done, next step would be to deal with the dongle and the jig.
I know there are quite a bunch of dongles out there since the inception of Team Xecuter's SX Pro, but I wanted to ask the community which dongle do they recommend for the Switch?

I know SX Pro comes alongside the SX OS software, which is sleek on its own, but I want to hear different opinions on this.
Basically, all I want to do is to install games (alongside their updates & DLCs), and RetroArch. Homebrew Launcher too of course for other homebrew apps like Quake, Doom, Half Life, etc.

So with that said, I put together a list of dongles I know I heard or have seen around.
If I missed one, please let me know, and also let me know which one would you recommend given my necessities.

Thanks in advance, guys! :D

Rekado :D

I always say Rekado is the best! Nonetheless, if you still want to go with a dongle, then I would suggest the Xkit's RCMLoader one. It's the latest one with good battery and good features such as the ability to load multiple payloads. You can get a very good price for it on AliExpress :)

But isn't Rekado actually an app and not a dongle?
I think that one is loaded through an Android phone with an OTG -> USB-C cable, right?

I gotta say I completely forgot about that one, but sadly that one doesn't enter into the "dongle" category :P
I was searching specifically for dongle+jig kits, because I want the ease of access of just putting the dongle in and that's it, without having to fire up and app and switch payload and such :P
Get sxpro and dont look back

Where can I get one?

To add on, I recommend one of the free CFW's (reinx, atmosphere)

the only thing sxos really has is xci loading and usb hdd support. XCI's can be converted so that's null and void and usb hdd support is been worked on for reinx.

But that's just my opinion

Oh I wasn't aware of that one.
I'll keep an eye of it, thanks for letting me know :)

Yeah I was between Atmosphere and ReiNX.
SX OS was my first option, but I want to go on the cheap-stake way first and try perhaps Atmosphere with sigpatches once I get the dongle kit.

This person have almost next day delivery

https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.m...-team-xecuter-entrega-inmediata-accesorio-_JM

The price difference is like 400-500 mxn from outside of Mexico so is worth it ,unless you like to play the waiting game for 1 month and a half to get 500 mxn cheaper

Edit : I recived mine from him pretty good support

Yeah he expects to have the tester units done by late in the month so possibly early feb release.

Atmos with sigpatches or reinx either work, though I do like the easy kip enable/disable in the reinx toolkit

Shid that's quite a bit more than I expected
But I'll keep tabs on it, maybe I might buy it later in the month, thanks!

Yep, ReiNX is convincing me a bit more just because of that :P

Am I allowed to say "why don't you build one?"

More fun and informative too.

Cost less than £5 to build your own (if building two)... About £10 in total for two once you finished building

Yes, it's an Android app. Either direct Type C -> Type C cable or OTG -> Type C cable.

It's not a dongle, yes, but that way you don't need to invest in a dongle. Also, once you set up Rekado, you don't even need to open the app or turn the phone screen on. Set it to auto and as soon as you plug in your cable and put Switch in RCM, it'll auto-detect it and send the preselected payload. Barely takes seconds. No need to "awaken" the phone screen or fire up the app :D

Anyways, it's your choice. Good luck :)

PS: I hope you know that once you have AutoRCM set, you don't even need the jig anymore, and AutoRCM is recommended to prevent efuses from burning and to prevent joycon rail abuse.

Sounds pretty neat.
I already have a USB-C cable, I might give it a try just for the kicks :P

Emunand? This is SX OS's killer app right now. Completely isolate your CFW from your internal FW

I've used the free CFW options for a while now (ReiNX, Atmosphere etc) but recently moved to SX OS for Emunand. I had a 4.1.0 console with a clean prehacked NAND backup to avoid bans but it meant I couldn't use games that needed the v5 or v6 masterkey (I didn't want to use AutoRCM and update my FW with ChoidujourNX).

With Emunand I now have 6.2.0 on emunand and no need to use AutoRCM as there is no way of accidentally booting into 6.2.0. Emunand will only boot out of SX OS boot menu. If I forget to enter RCM and boot, I just end up in a clean 4.1.0 environment.

Lots of people also playing legit games online on updated sysnand and using emunand for "homebrew" etc.

Added to that, the SX dongle is very nice. I found one for £20, it was a no brainer for me.

Here you go...

https://github.com/MenosGrante/Rekado/releases

Also, what @lostdotfish said, if you're really interested, SX OS is worth it. I am a cheapskate though, so I use Rekado and ReiNX :P
I do have my eyes set on SX OS.
Though to be honest, most of the features I know I won't even use.
Heck if I didn't need to update the system from 3.0.0 to anything above, I wouldn't do it.
I wanted to hold on until something else came up, but seems like French-nameNX is the way to go.
I wanted to avoid using AutoRCM because I wanted to use the console as handheld most of the time, hence why I was focusing on the dongle to enter RCM manually and inject the payload each time, but I might go the docked way every now and then :P

I've used the SX Pro since it released and it works very well. It's very tiny but it doesn't have a slot for the jig so that can be annoying. A lot of dongles allow you to launch multiple payloads, but for me that isn't a big deal because you can quickly launch another payload from the SX menu if you use the SX Pro.

Recently I bought Xkit's RCMLoader from Aliexpress and I've been using it for a little over a week. For my usage, it works just as well as the SX Pro. It seamlessly launches the SX payload into the SX OS bootmenu. It's about 2x the size of the SX Pro but it's still very small. The best part about it is the slot to hold the jig and the rechargeable battery. I haven't had any issues with it, and it seems to be made with quality materials.

I would probably recommend the RCMLoader. It gives you the option to experiment with multiple payloads/CFWs, and if you decide that you want to use the licensed version of SX OS, then you can just buy that license and your total cost for the RCMLoader+SX OS will be about the same as buying the SX Pro.

Emunand is getting worked on for the free CFW's. Not to mention the first two iterations of the SX emunand were detectable. All I'm saying on the subject.

I use NS Atmosphere. I have had it for around 30 days now since buying my first Switch. I still haven't charged it and it hasn't failed me once. Jig is quality also. Took 1 minute to set up. I have only used hekate_ctcaer_4.6 on it. Cost $11.00 on Ebay from US seller.

Build quality and plastic molding is fantastic. This unit addresses all my needs perfectly.

I plan on adding a Trinket M0 once I have time.
