Hacking Random Black Screen after launching apps via HBC

Whats up guys, im having a weird problem lately that wasnt happening before. When i enter any app via HBC, sometimes it loads normally and sometimes i got a black screen after loading, i have to hold power to shutdown the console, and this is happening randomly.

At first i thought my SD was the problem, tried formatting it, FAT32 32k clusters as usual, nothing changed, then i tried with another SD after copying all stuff from the old SD, the problem still persisted, even tried without any USB connected but didnt changed anything.

So, i tried running the apps with USB HDD without the SD inserted on the Wii, copied the apps folder to my HDD, tried running some apps via HBC and im still getting black screens randomly!

I dont know what may be causing this, since i tested with different SDs, without SD, without USB. Like i said before, never had any problem with my Wii before, anything worked just fine, and this now is driving me crazy! Any suggestion you guys want to share? Thanks

What apps are black screening? Are they set to u use ahbprot or no ios reload in the meta.xml? Does the wii have a wifi connection? As scooby said a Syscheck would also be helpful

As for the apps that are black screening, i use a lot of them, so i didnt tested all of them, but the black screen is random, sometimes takes some tries for it to happen, sometimes it happens the first time i enter an app. Some of them that know it can give black screen are USBLoader GX(ahb_access), Snes9XGX(ahb_access), FceumGX(ahb_access), ScuumVM(no_ios_reload), and im using the latest versions of those apps. Yes, it have wi fi connection.

Try launching the apps from a forwarder channel, try gx's UNEO forwarder or the USB loader one included in modmii.

Ahbprot has an intermittent bug when launched via the HBC (said more correctly the bug is actually in the HBC). It's pretty rare and even more so when there's a saved/working internet connection. But launching via a forwarder with ahbprot enabled will bypass the issue. Or just don't use ahbprot and configure your apps to use cios 249 instead

Thanks for the answer! The problem is that i dont use forwarders on my Wii, only USB Loader GX,and i have so many apps that i think that most of them dont even have forwarders. Im gonna test with the UNEO forwarder and post the result here.

How can i configure my apps to use cios 249? Does it change anything? Its weird that i wasnt having this problem before, and i didnt changed any config for this to start happen...

That issue is so rare that I almost think it might be something else. For gx it's in the settings, others I don't recall.

Yes, it might be something else since the issue is not rare here. I tested UNEO forwarder and it worked with no problem after several tries, also checked its settings and its already using cios 249, so the cios might not be the problem. I just dont know what to do now...

Install forwarders for all your apps and if the problem goes away maybe it was the HBC, only time will tell

Right, im gonna do this and see how it works with time. If HBC is the problem, do you think that reinstalling it may solve this?

I can't recall but I think the open homebrew channel might have this bug fixed, but reinstalling the same HBC version I don't think will make a difference. It's so rare that honestly I think most people have forgetten it even exists. I remember only because if this bug were to happen in the middle of something more important (I. E. System menu install) it could lead to a brick, for that reason ModMii doesn't use ahbprot for anything other than installing a patched IOS236 so if it fails no harm is done (as is the case for loading emulators, no harm done if it crashes)

Maaan, i think i found the problem... i deleted my wifi settings on system menu and tested loading some apps for some time, guess what? No blackscreens! Its working fine now. Saved my settings for wifi again and tested some more, everything is working fine. Im no specialist in this but maybe my wifi settings got corrupted someway or something like that and when i tried to load apps it would freeze the console, since HBC tries to connect every time you return to it and while still loading apps. Im gonna keep testing to be sure its solved. Thanks XFlak!
