ROM Hack Ragnarok DS (U) Item/Monster Name Correction Patch

After playing XSEED's English release of Ragnarok DS, my feelings ranged from enjoyment to disappointment to disgust at their localization.

A few 'gems' of their translation are:<ul><li>'Bileta' headgear, which should be 'Biretta'.</li><li>Sandman dropping "Sharpened Leg Bone of Ghoul", when it's really 'Katar of Quaking'.</li><li>'Katar of Dusty Thornbush,' which should be 'Infiltrator'.</li><li>'Neutral' or 'Normal' property weapons being called 'Void', my guess is a bad translation of 'Devoid'.</li></ul>So what I've done is, I've taken some of the work from the (J) translation and corrected XSEEDs version.

Wow. I never would have thought of this but I have to admit I like it a lot. I've played RO for years and while this game is very well made, the odd name changes in the localization, while not incredibly bad have been a constant source of mild irritation that ends up taking away from the game somewhat. I'll definitely be using this!

Let's be fair now, some of the official RO translations are clearly wrong or engrishy - Baselard is an actual type of sword, and Bat Fang is more natural than Tooth of Bat.
But yeah, they should have retained the official translations as much as possible for consistency.

I have to agree here. When you're making a spin off or port or anything like that of a long established and popular game in hopes of appealing to the people who like said game, silly mistakes like this are enough to upset people and hurt sales.

It's just unprofessional and disappointing.

The description of the "Golden Thief Bug Card" for example is misleading, too.
It should say that it nulls elemental magic and not all magic.
The Owl Baron for example can still hit you badly with this card on your shield.

Cool, but unfortunately too late for me, I am already through.

The description of the "Golden Thief Bug Card" for example is misleading, too.
It should say that it nulls elemental magic and not all magic.
The Owl Baron for example can still hit you badly with this card on your shield.

That's most likely a mistake in the game's coding, since Owl Duke and Owl Barron use Lightning magic, and GTB card does block ALL magic in the PC version.

Meh fine... so it is technically correct.
But it doesn't make it sound any less like shit.

They were obviously direct translations. You can't expect them to double- check the iRO database for each and single official term

When you're translating the adaptation of a long established game, why not?

Also, mistakes like "Bileta" are kind of inexcusable.
